22 to tulip. No date yet again. Love this brewery but throw me a bone here!

A - Cloudy medium flat brown like unfiltered apple cider. Not attractive. Picture perfect one-finger cream head. Very attractive. Cancel each other out for slightly above average.

S - Man this smells wonderful. Smells like raw honey and caramel and malt with a whispered promise of booze. What it doesn't smell like at all is hops, which is a surprise for an imperial IPA. But then again I don't know how old it is.

T - Mostly malty caramel flavors that, just like in the aroma, blend seamlessly into a low-level booze flavor that gives it some complexity. A previous reviewer mentioned a candi sugar effect and I can kind of see that. That may be the sort of raw honey + booze flavor I note. I don't get any of the orange several previous reviewers mentioned. At the end there's just a bit of sourness in the lips and tip of the tongue. There is no hint of hops, only a faded footprint in the form of barely noticeable tongue abrasion. Reads more like a barleywine.

M - Creamy leaning towards viscous. Really smooth. Maybe that's the oats in it. A real pleasure

O - This was a rich, thick, smooth, strong, delicious beer and I'll take another any time. I have to think it was an old bottle though, because with zero trace of hops there's no way they'd call this an imperial IPA. It's much more like an IPA that has sat long enough to fall back to only malts. So it's hard to rate this to style so I'll just rate it irrespective of style.

I had their Two Captains Imperial IPA as well, and while I think I like this one a bit better objectively, I think that one was somewhat closer to DIPA style, though still pretty balanced and with prominent malt.

Dense caramel like color ale. Lots of yeast particles suspended in the brew. Almost looks like honey in density. Finger of head on the pour with weak retention and minimal lacing.

Smells like rye bread, biscuits and honey with a pine like hop edge.

Big malt character of buttered biscuits. Dense caramel. Assertive herbal hop but overpowered by the malt. Harsh, bitter, soapy finish.

Full bodied, near syrupy. Descent carbonation.

Just ok. Lacks balance and a little more malty than I prefer my IPAs.

A: Deep Copper opaque brown. Off white head that stick around at a finger or so. Lacing throughout.

S: Before getting close, I can smell caramel. Let's get in closer. Caramel malts overpower a spicier hop profile. Brown sugar. Dark fruits.

T: Whoa! Holy sweet malt, batman! Some lemon and orange bittnerness, hit with a fantastically fruity malt. Some alcohol is present, but all in all, very smooth.

M: To me, the sugar/malt mouthfeel isn't supposed to be here. Tastes a lot like my first homebrew attempt at a hop bomb... overly sugary and thick.

O: Not fully impressed, however... it works for he style. I had never had a Norwegian beer, I think, so this is nice to add to the list of countries... but not something I would want regularly.

Had this on tap at Braukunstlive 2014 in Munich, Germany. It tasted really fresh, considering they must have flown in or drove down from Norway....another WOW beer: a huge IPA, full of all kinds of fruity flavors, but it was also very alcoholicy, which in my book means it needs more lager time.

Pours Amber with orange hues and with almost zero head.

Blood orange and some grape in the nose. More of a barley wine character. Resins and pine coming from the hops.

Almost candy-like. Still coming through as more of a barley wine. Fairly balanced between malt and hops. More blood orange. Sipping this one for sure as some alcohol notes come through. Candy and toffee comes to mind from what I would think would be crystal malts but the bottle says barley, wheat and rye. Comes through more complex then I would initially believe.

Not as boozy as I initially thought. Some alcohol, yes. Overall this is more of a barley wine bit there are some DIPA characteristics. Strong hop presence with slightly stronger malt characters. Doesn't finish as dry as some DIPAs on the market.
