Inky pitch black. Oily. Lots of dark tan head. Quite dense and creamy.
Very, very roasty and dark. Lots of deep aroma. Coffee. Bitter chocolate. Plenty of alcohol too.
Very bitter with bits of sweet malt. Really complex bitter cocoa flavour. Slightly charred oak notes. Bits of alcohol. Good stuff.
Full body with moderate carbonation. Good.
A really solid BA stout. Lots of rich, complex malt flavour with the barrel adding some roundness.

Pitch black in colour, light cannot penetrate this brew. Head is extremely tight and a creamy dark brown in colour. Medium lace that falls off beautifully.
Sweet malty aroma with an ample amount of smokeyness. Hints of cognac.
Taste is sweet and a tons of roast. Alcohol is hidden well.
Body is medium, however there is very little in regards tounge being coated.
Nice beer. I love the aroma, however unsatisfied with the mouthfeel. Would buy again to share with friends. Cognac barrel-aged is a nice twist.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a small foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light dry roasted malt notes with some light sweet notes and very subtle cognac notes. Taste is also dominated by light sweet concentrated malt notes with light arming alcohol notes with some light bitter black chocolate notes. Body is quite full with oily texture and medium carbonation with not much apparent alcohol. Cognac is harder to discerns then I would have expected but very enjoyable nonetheless.

250ml bottle. Norwegian ale, aged for one year in Cognac oak casks. Of course it is.
This beer pours a solid black abyss, with zero highlights - backlit, basal, or otherwise - and three fingers of very tight creamy milk chocolate brown head, which leaves some low-lying 'landward ho!' lace around the glass as it evenly recedes.
It smells of roasted caramel/toffee malt, somewhat off black fruit, smoked coffee beans, bittersweet chocolate, a vanillan woodiness, and some mildly medicinal funky white wine notes. The taste is big, lightly toasted caramel malt, medium dark cocoa, cafe Americano, black tea leaves, faint hints of spicy Habanos cigars, and subtly booze-soaked French oak.
The bubbles are present, and more active than normal for the style, the body medium-heavy in weight, mostly smooth, but for a bit of skulking alcohol astringency, and creamy by the same measure. It finishes well on the sweet side, the caramel, chocolate, syrupy white wine, and charred wood essences working well in concert.
A nicely rendered imperial stout, with the usually under-performing white-ish spirit here doing well to parlay its inherent goodness. Cognac is all about the barrel, mostly, yet the white wine notes bleed through in a pleasant enough manner. Enjoyable, at a slow and duly meted out rate.

250ml bottle poured into wine glass 10/4/13
A black liquid with a thumbnail of cola, a noisy, fizzy dark mocha foam has no retention perhaps due to a dirty glass because it looks like a slow boiling glass of motor oil after the foams gone, plenty of bubbles in there
S very dark and bruised fruit mix with bakers chocolate, espresso, faint smoke, vanilla, booze, and barrel, smells a little hot but it somehow works with the cognac notes
T a little char and even darker roasted espresso then the smell, the barrels even stronger in the mouth but the booze is slightly better concealed, a little tobacco and some earthy notes mixing with dark chocolate, tastes great
M its thick but no knife and fork required, mellow carbonation and just a little heat, tannins are there and almost has a numbing effect on the lips, I could see how some people might not like this feel as its a little rough but I'm loving it. long aftertaste of barrel and lingering booze
O I'm pretty stoked on this one, its intense but mellow at the same time. Quite rich with woody boozy notes working well
I'll be picking up a few of these for long term aging, its great today but I can see this being world class with a few years on it. Perhaps not for the faint of heart but I was craving something with a little kick and this one delivered
