Completely opaque with a dark, thin head. Rather inviting aroma of rye, chocolate, and dark fruit. Extremely smooth and complex. Layer upon layer of flavor. Rye and chocolate first, then figs, currants, charred wood, and burnt marshmallows. There is a hint of sweetness followed by a lasting chalky finish. Deceptive 9% ABV.

This is outstanding. Get it.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 4/7/14

A almost black with a deep cola edge, three fingers of mocha foam quickly falls to a thin film but manages to leave a couple partial rings on the way down

S coco, spruce, juniper and faint mint, root beer, fennel comes out strong, hard to believe this one only has the water, hops, yeast, and rye/barley malt listed on the label, I'd believe this was barrel aged if you told me with some wood and booze rounding things out

T anise, fennel, spruce and spice, not far off the smell and just as good, spicy malt comes out more then the nose

M silky and creams up, a little heat but its mellow, a little sticky on the lips, and a spicy, roasty finish just keep going

O the malt plays a massive part in this one, I wasn't expecting the spruce and fennel but it worked well, going down quick and its a hot Summer evening, this would work wonders on a cold Winter day

I might buy another one to age and I'm wondering why I took so long to try it for the first time, another great brew from Nogne

Had this poured into a stout glass, my first offering from these Norwegians. Intersecting concept with a decent result. The smokey bitterness of the porter flavoring somewhat masked the spiciness of the rye, but there were still some hints here and there. Dark brown color, incredibly smooth going down. Really liked it.
