Had this poured into a stout glass, my first offering from these Norwegians. Intersecting concept with a decent result. The smokey bitterness of the porter flavoring somewhat masked the spiciness of the rye, but there were still some hints here and there. Dark brown color, incredibly smooth going down. Really liked it.

500ml bottle, part of a slew of new Nøgne Ø to hit the shelves in Alberta of late.
This beer pours a very, very dark brown hue, with prominent cola highlights, and three fat fingers of puffy, foamy, and verily creamy tan head, which leaves some streaky tree trunk lace around the glass at it quite lazily recedes.
It smells of fruity caramel malt, sort of the licorice-touched, candied variety, over-sugared milky black coffee, a slightly spicy roasted rye graininess, nougaty chocolate, mild leafy, earthy hops, and a suggestion of metallic alcohol. The taste is dark cocoa powder, semi-sour milk, grainy caramel and rye malt, lightly astringent Nordic licorice, faintly spicy yeast, tart black fruit, and further earthy, leafy, and gently perfumed hops, the 18-proof ABV needling its way in thusly.
The carbonation is light and frothy, the body medium-full in weight (for the style), yet perhaps a tad thin on the ground for its smoothness, and any creaminess is of the airy variety. It finishes surprisingly dry, the rye starting to overtake the caramel for malt direction, the licorice notes going all natively tight and salty, some lactic sourness lingering, and the alcohol starting to sniff around in earnest.
A decent attempt at a - well let's count 'em: one, two, and, we'll say three markups to the base - English Porter. Broken down, this collaboration has added rye malt, ramped up booze, and, yes, Yanks and Norwegians to the mix. The result is interesting, rather flavourful, and drinkable enough, the latent dryness going the long mile in support of that.

A- Pitch black with a thick, creamy, tan 2 finger head. Good retention and outstanding lacing. Couldn't be better.
S- Coffee, roasted malts, dark fruits, booze, and tropical hops.
T- Dark, sweet fruits up front. Big chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, coffee, and a little licorice follows. Creamy chocolate is the boss of this beer, but its other parts compliment it wonderfully. Beautifully balanced and complex. Hoppy tropical fruit flavor pops in and out as it warms.
M- Super, I mean SUPER, creamy. And seriously as thick as old motor oil. Kind of sticky. Light, crisp carbonation. Drying with a nice roasted bitterness.
O- This is a well crafted beer. Balanced and complex. The mouthfeel is what I will remember most, but overall this was a damn good beer and memorable experience.
