Pours pitch black with a couple fingers worth of a mocha head. Decent retention leaving little puffy clouds on this dark brew.

Smells like a nice strong cup of coffee with a hint of sweetness.

Roasted grains and coffee, a nice touch of sweet appears as it warms.

Great mouthfeel all be it fairly thin, medium carbonation with a nice dry finish.

This review is adapted from my previous notes, dated September 6th, 2013

A- Timber Hog is absolutely the blackest beer I have seen to date, no transparency whatsoever. A pleasant tan head of about a 2 finger width crowns this liquid that resembles crude oil; although it doesn't survive completely, at least a 1/2 finger worth of head is present throughout.

S- All I could pick up in the nosing dept. were intense notes of fresh dark roast coffee and burnt, outrageously dark chocolate. The smell is quite impressive and really encourages you to take that first sip promptly.

T- The taste is much like the smell but with the awesome addition of a hop barrage that beautifully balances out the entire brew.

M- The mouthfeel is relatively thin when compared to other elements of the beer. Medium to thin body with fairly high carbonation.

O- Picaroons Timber Hog Stout has just joined the list of my favourite Stouts and rightfully so. Not only is this a pleasing beer aesthetically but it has the smell and taste to back it up. This is a profoundly drinkable beer that should be enjoyed by everyone who has the chance to get their hands on it.

Unbelievable chunky lace on the glass. The head isn't nearly impressive, but it lasts. The liquid is near black where no light shines through.

Burnt chocolate that smells like old, ignored coffee. No cream, no hop--just black coffee.

The body is thin and the carbonation is relatively high. This has a burnt coffee flavor like the smell suggests. There are also a mild sour cherry notes. There's a bit of harshness to this brew that reminds me of Beamish Stout.

Bottle split with a friend he brought back from Fredricton. From rough notes.

A - Poured black with a mocha head. Some slight lace and retention was fairly good.

S - Roasty with a good amount of coffee.

T - Much the same with a fairly strong coffee element. Very nice.

M - Medium body and just barely medium carbonation seem appropriate.

O/D - Nice. A good drinkable stout.

500 mL bottle stamped Batch 1100, Packaged ????2/10. Thanks to BBrianBoogie. Poured into a Duvel tulip around 6C.

Stellar tan head atop a dark body. Lots of retention and lacing. Body and nose have moderate roasted grain aroma with molasses being the predominant quality and a bit of coffee on the finish. A surprisingly high amount of sweetness is found in the nose and on the finish. Started better than it finished as it warmed...
