Special thanks to Kevin for picking this up for me in NC

A: Jet black body is topped by a mocha head of impressive retention.

S: Bouquet is a touch shy, but notes of caramel, chocolate, and coffee persevere.

T: Dry, with hints of coffee, chicory, and licorice.

M: Full body with a light creaminess, and little carbonation.

D: Definitely a delicious stout, something the locals should both embrace and enjoy.

A friend gave me this to try. .. glad I didn't pay for it. The appearance is near black but with a grotesquely over foamy head. The nose is a little funky and no where near as rich as this style should be. The mouthfeel is decent but thin. The flavor is light and dissapointing with no real notes to speak of. I really hope that I just got a bad bottle but this was very dissapointing. Definitely would not try again.

On tap in a pint glass.

Opaque, black with medium tan head that dissipates quickly to leave a thin rim and prominent lacing.

Carmel malt, dark chocolate aroma. Taste is similar with moderate bitterness that lingers. No detectable ethanol.

Medium body with quite a lot of carbonation and slight warming.

Overall a tasty drinkable stout. The bitterness is a bit high for a stout with not enough sweetness to be fully balanced. Also seems a little more carbonated than some stouts.

22 ounce bottle -> Dogfish Head glass

A - pours up deep black with a dark tan one inch foamy head. Retention and lacing are both good.

S - nose is sort of weak. I mostly get some roasted and grassy notes.

T - Caramel malts dominate up front with toffee, and molasses notes. It finishes clean with coffee, chicory, black licorice, and roasted nut flavors.

M - fairly thick and chewy with good carbonation

O - a decent average stout. I'd drink this again in a heartbeat.

Mild smell. Kinda musty and not as potent as I'd like. Thin pour but retains a dark color. Light chocolate colored head that fades fast.

Taste is sorta like the smell murky/must. The dryness that usually accompanies a stout is really more sour than anything. The hickory comes in only slightly when the beer warms up. It's not as thin as it looked in the poor.

Overall I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. Usually I can find at least one quality that stands out that at least gives the beer some unique identify but everything here is just equally meh.

22 oz. bomber poured into the larger version of the Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Beer comes out dark brown with some deep mahogany highlights on the sides and wherever the liquid gets a little shallow. Dark tan head that is CRAZY big and frothy, felt like I was pouring a classy Belgian style at room temperature. The head on this refuses to quit and stick around the entire session and longer, it actually outlasts the liquid. I love where this is going.

Ok, smell was a little bit underwhelming, but not bad. Not as big and bad as I expected based on the color and look of the beer. Still it's above average for the style. There's some nice grainy notes with small hints of weak coffee and chocolate. At the end there's some feint citrus hop notes. Decent balance overall, just nothing too strong.

Taste is on par with the smell, a slight increase. Again some dark burned grains with subtle coffee and some semi-sweet chocolate. There's a nice lingering bitter citrus and gentle pine finish at the end from the hops. Really like the taste of this, it's a good shelf stout that can be consumed on a regular basis if stouts are your style.

Mouthfeel is really good. It's full bodied, the taste lingers for about 20 seconds after each sip so you can really notice every flavor all together. Great smoothness and well balanced. Starts smooth and has a reasonably dry bitter finish. I like how drinkable it is, but I think this is more of a beer that belongs in a 6 pack than a bomber unless you're sharing; I was ready for something else about 16oz's or so into it. Good overall though, really glad to have tried it, just wish I shared it now.

Thanks Paschal for the trade!
