Very dark brown (SRM 34) in a Dogfish Head snifter. A creamy, half-inch, light chestnut head dissipates to a rocky coating.

Sweet milk chocolate balances against roasted malt and ground coffee. Pumpernickel bread takes over with warming.

Enters sweet and builds to roasted bitterness that lasts through a long, prominent finish of black coffee. Light flavors of citrus hops are displayed with warmth. Possibly some licorice and pumpernickel accentuating throughout.

Medium body with a hint of alcohol and modest carbonation. A scratchy, cotton texture plays well with light astringency.

This is an excellent beer to enjoy with lively conversation with open-minded friends.

Pours deep dark coffee brown with a thick tan head and persistent tacky lacing even several minutes after initial pour and several tastes. No light penetrating through the pint glass. Aromas of roasted malts, american oak, and wet hops. Taste of coffee, cocoa nibs and again the slight bitter finish of hops. Mouth of a porter more than a stout IMO. Very drinkable, and definitely an American Stout style and not milk stout. We'll see how a couple of bottles age with the flavors inherent in this brew.

Very good thick stout that's got a great mouth feel to it. Pours with a thick lacing and heavy head that is light brown color. Don't live far from this brewery so I stock up on this stuff.

Too much carbonation and hops just unbalance the style. Not enough chocolate or coffee come through

BBD 12/14. Pours dark as a starless night with a massive World Class head, lacing and retention. Nice, but somewhat subtle, nose of sweet dark chocolate with only a hint of roast. Very light medium body with just a touch of creamy texture. Slightly above normal carbonation with some effervescence in the middle and finish. The flavor profile is intense, a bit complex and fairly balanced. It begins with a bitter rush of dark chocolate that fades into coffee notes. The sweet aspects of the nose are not present. In turn, the coffee releases into a mild bitter roast with citric, but not quite rind like, hop bitterness. The finish is somewhat dry and leaves you with a distinctive aftertaste of charred grain. Similar to Bell's Kalamazoo, but a bit more refined.
