Enjoyed a couple of samples of this at Brewgrass. Glad to run into it again in a reviewable setting. On tap in a shaker pint. Light golden amber body with plenty of sticky lacing from the off-white head.

In spite of the crappy glassware, a huge hoppy burst of aromas greet the nose. I am left to imagine how great this would smell in a tulip or snifter. Scorchingly bitter with a ton of hoppy flavors. Pungent and potent, plentiful pine and grapefruit. Some earthiness and a somewhat gritty feel. This is a beer that would fit in well in the PNW or the west coast. A touch on the thick side, but sweetness is kept in check. I'd love to see them make this again.

Overall impression: A solid choice for hopheads. Those with tamer palates should take a pass on this one. For an east coast DIPA, fairly monstrous. Definitely worth checking out.

Appearance- Golden, nice head, decent lacing
Aroma - sweet and hoppy
taste - fruit and citrus
hops up front, minimal malt backbone to provide balance and a finish that is oily and piney. As you can tell by my description this beer is much more complex than it smells or tastes upfront.
Mouthfeel - If there is a weakness to this brew - it is the mouthfeel. The mouthfell is a bit thin but to be fair I like the stereotypical chewy mouthfeel of a most DIPAs that have higher abv's.
Drinkability is very, very good.
Very Good NC product!
Had on tap at Duckworths on 7/14/11 and it was the best, freshest Death By Hops I have ever had.

Label stated best by Feb 12.

Golden with good clarity and a small white head. Some lacing. Aroma was mostly grassy with citrus and floral contributions as well. Flavor was citrusy and grassy hop flavors with a nice lingering bitterness. It was not quite as good as I remembered when I first tried it on tap a year or so ago in Charlotte but it grew on me over the course of the glass. Mouthfeel was silky, maybe even oily, with a low to moderate carbonation.

A nice exercise in hops.
