shared with yagman. very pumped to try this one for a while. big thanks to mikecharley for trading this one my way.

a - much like the rare we just finished, this beer is an oily black with no head at all. swirl of the glass builds a thin sharp looking brown head that leaves as quick as it arrived. lacing is pretty slick, but leaves some traces on the glass. has a really nice shine to it.

s - oh yum. smells of stout with honey. the honey adds a sharper sweet smell that rounds out the massive roastiness and chocolatey. barrel is evident, but the honey gives it a down home feel. almost a bit nutty.

t - barrel aged stout indeed, but there is a HUGE sweetness on top from the honey. it really compliments the stout flavors. i just polished off a bottle of rare and this beer is nowhere near as thick and the honey is a huge element of the flavor. really delicious and unique. the honey seems to really carry much of this beer.

m - again, very smooth and easy to drink. the honey gives the beer a walking on air type of feel and makes it very light and fluffy. the smoothness of the barrel is there, but coming off a BCBRS it is hard to find something smoother...but searching my memory banks through stouts, this is a huge winner.

o - overall, what a night of great stouts. from olde hickory to rare to event horizon...really all worlds apart and all incredible quality. this beer is world class and another that is worth the hype. the honey adds an incredible dimension that makes an otherwise heavy heavy beer to be silky and light. really enjoyable and a must try for any big stout fan.

2013

It looks like pouring a black tar into the glass that spawns a thick brown foam.

The nose is creamy, lactose-sweet, with whipped cream, coconut, vanilla, hazelnuts and toffee.

This is nicely complex in flavor with hazelnuts, caramel, toffee, Bit O Honey candies, chocolate and coconut. It ends creamy and fudgey but there's a small phenolic taste that kept this from getting an even higher score.

The feel is very smooth and thick with a touch of alcohol burn.

Great beer! Immense thanks to BeerAlmanac for getting this to me, it's well worth the search.

A- pitch black with a 1/2 finger caramel colored head. A true glass stainer.

S- Huge bourbon notes from a couple feet away. Vanilla, oak, soaked wood. Touch of caramel.

T- Intensely sweet gets things off and running. Bourbon follows next with the vanilla. Charred malts find their way in late. Not sure how much honey was added, but does seem to be easily detectable.

M- Maybe a bit thinner than expected, but still coats nicely. Mid to full body.

O- a nice balance of the barrel notes. Not over done. Probably a little sweeter and lighter body than I prefer on the style, but few flaws in this one
