I feel like the taster I had on tap was fuller bodied and creamier which is why I bought this bottle. The bottle had me a little underwhelmed, but that's not saying much since I was blown away at the Hickory tasting room.

A (3/3) - Very dark, basically black with thick creamy head that resembles dark foamed milk
S (11/12) - Heavy dark chocolate notes with hints of bourbon, on subsequent sniffs the alcohol comes through a little stronger
T (16/20) - Chocolatey goodness with a sour bourbon finish
M (5/5) - Pretty creamy with a dry and bubbly finish
O (8/10) - Proof that a barrel-aged beer doesn't have to kick you in the face with bourbon, dark malt, and alcohol, this beer is subtle...and as I'm writing that I realize how ridiculous it is that this heavy-hitter counts as subtle in 2016.

Drank over xmas 2015 with the brother and whatnot. Pours black, tan head, 1/8". Aroma of wood and bourbon, chocolate is minimal.

Good sweetness as if rye barrel. A little bit of bitterness quickly fades as the more sticky chocolate malt helps out like its the calvary. A little bit of bourbon in every sip. Good stuff, but its also nothing to trade across the country for. Solid 2nd tier offering. Honey is good for the mouthfeel.

Had this on 2016-02-03 in Columbia, PA from a 22oz bottled on 2015-11-17.

A - Opaque black with a 1-finger creamy light brown head from an aggressive pour. It has mild lace.

S - Dried plums, dates, licorice, bourbon, milk and dark chocolate, coffee.

T - Rich as can be. Toasted/charred grain, dark chocolate, oak, espresso latte, vanilla, coconut, light bourbon heat and a touch of black licorice. Great roasted bitterness in the finish. Mild umami as it warms.

M - Heavy mouthfeel and mild carbonation yield a milkshake consistency. Really nice.

O - This is a luscious beer. I'm very impressed this much flavor is available at this ABV. Seek this one out; it's really good.

This was a great stout, but for some reason it drank really boozy for me. The bottle I drank was from Dec 14, so I expected it to be really toned down and pick up on honey and chocolate. It only clocks in at 8.5%, but it drank a lot higher than that for me. Still great, but stronger than I expected.

Pours opaque black with a nice tan head. Touch of ripe apple on the nose - interesting alongside chocolate, oak, vanilla, and hazelnut. Taste of bourbon and dark, rich chocolate with notes of honey, oak, nuttiness, and dark umami. Feel is rich and medium-heavy with solid carbonation but not too much. Very good and true to style.

Pours an opaque dark, dark brown almost black like oil color with khaki colored head. Chocolate, oak earthiness, roasted malt, slight bourbon, and some vanilla on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied, thick, yet smooth mouthfeel. Finishes with bourbon, chocolate, and oak.

L: Jet black, looks like oil
S: whiskey, coffee,
T: The initial taste is bourbon forward, but not in a bad way. Not much heat from the bourbon. Has a nice sweet aftertaste. The honey compliments the whiskey quite well
F: oily and slick, with a decent amount of carbonation.
O: super solid stout. Would certainly try again.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber dated almost exactly a year ago!

Very dark brown with brown head. A lot of late carbonation after the pour.

A lot of honey and bourbon on the nose.

Outstanding, a lot of flavor, I've had other stouts much greater in ABV with not as good a profile. Quick roasty start gives way quickly to a more ashtray finish (the only negative). Hot alcohol on the taste but no burn due to the relatively low ABV, a tricky palate-twister.

Slightly thin but finishes nicely with the aforementioned late carb.

Fantastic impy stout, glad my NC trading partner shared this.

2014 version from a 32-oz growler fill. This is an excellent bourbon-stout that can hang with all the big boys with the added bonus of only being 8.5% abv. The weakest part is the feel, which is a bit thin compared to its much more concentrated cousins, but this has a great nose--bourbon, honey, oak, malt, vanilla--and taste--which follows the nose with a bit of heat, chocolate, and nice sweet finish. If you're a fan of the style, you'll love it.

I fell in love with with this outstanding flavor profile. Of the very best imperial stouts I've ever tasted. This came out of nowhere from a friend an damn what a surprise. I will definately be looking to get my hands on more. Note: the one I tried was aged two years.

2013 Bomber poured into a snifter. Pours like motor oil, thick, viscous, and chewy-looking. Almost no head and a thin espresso bean lacing. 4.25

Smells of deep roasted malts, dark chocolate and some aged hops. Sweet caramel teases the nose as does some vanilla. 4

Roasted malt flavor continues as does rich, bold dark chocolate. Impressive fruit flavors of raspberries and cherries and figs. Sweet honey and vanilla permeate and complement the other flavors, making for some divine flavor combos. The flavor is like a dark chocolate bar with honey and raspberries with a touch of smokiness. Superb. It's not until this really warms that I notice the bourbon emerge. 4.5

Just like the pour, this drinks thick, viscous, smooth, but with a thick, chewy feel. Sweet, roasty, a wince of tartness, spiciness from the bourbon, but there's absolutely no boozy heat. The bitterness on the finish is just right. 4.5

This is just a cornucopia of flavor. I love the fruit notes. Just awesome.

Pours dark brown, almost black with minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is very inviting. Great barrel character with some smoke, vanilla, and I can smell the honey. Taste is bourbon forward with honey and chocolate. Honey is a nice change of pace compared to most BA stouts, but I'm not digging it. Taste chocolate as well as char from the barrel. Cola flavor is also present. Mouth feel is medium with low carb. Those who appreciate the honey will like this beer more than I do. Cola flavor is also a big turn off for me, but other than that, its very good. Love the barrel character and the aroma.

I'm bias as this one of my favorite stouts and it's readily available during release.
Nice thick and smooth mouth feel, sweet on the backend can really taste the sweetness of the honey. Doesn't get much better than this

1/4 inch head. Pitch black. Aroma is intense bourbon and oak, medium cocoa and a sweetness I can't exactly pinpoint as a smell like freshly baked German chocolate cake. Body is surprisingly slick at 8.5%. Taste is wonderfully surprising as well. I agree with other posts to the similarities to BCS, vanilla, bourbon caramel, smooth as hell. Want more!

L - Deep black...very minimal head forms and dissipates quickly.
S - Sweetness....honey, bourbon and chocolate. Smells very decadent.
T - Exactly as the nose. Nice sweetness from the honey. Notes of bourbon and some fudginess. Drinks thick for 8.5%abv.
M - Super smooth. Coats the mouth and throat with chocolate and honey deliciousness.
O - Really shocked at how amazing this beer is. Thoroughly enjoyed though the bomber is a bit much to drink by your self due to the sweetness. Will seek this out again.

The only issue I had with the event horizon was that it was a tad sweet. It poured an opaque black with thin tan head that did not lace. The scent was Bourbon BABY...with slight hints of dark fruit and coffee. The taste was sweeter with great bourbon base. The mouthfeel was fuller....with not much carbonation. Overall.....YUMMY!

really reminded me of BCBS. I mean I swear that's what I was drinking.. but after getting half way through the bottle it got to be a but much where BCBS just seems to get better and better the more you drink.. now if I had only had one glass this would have been even more awesome.

A great beer, especially for the ABV, it surprises you. Its sweet, like honey, but boozy and there are waves of vanilla and toffee. I really enjoyed this beer, a pleasant surprise!

Poured a deep black with almost no head. Taste of molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, a hint of chocolate and a slight barrel spice. A little sweeter than I like, but very well done.

Bottle to tulip - 2014 vintage.

Pours deep dark with a toffee colored head of fine bubbles that linger for a moment but reside to a calm surface. The smell certainly develops as it warms to toffee/coco/bourbon infused oak with a slight finish of chocolate. The taste follows nicely with more bitter chocolate than before and a healthy dose of roasted malts and barrel. Moderate viscosity, and carbonation, full body and slightly sticky as it warms.

A damn nice BA stout, kind of in the realm of a BCBS in terms of body and flavors. I highly recommend this and will seek this out next year (maybe just another excuse to roll over to Ashville).

A: This poured an opaque black with a little tan head.
S: It smelled like oak and coconut, with rich dark chocolate and molasses, and a little smoke and leather.
T: It tasted like rich dark chocolate and smoky coffee, with some oak and toasted coconut and molasses and leather. It had a clean sweet and earthy aftertaste.
M: It was oily with some carbonation. Nice slick body.
D: This was a great BB stout, with delicious scent and taste and solid body. Clean finish, and not very hot, so relatively easy to drink. No need to age. Recommended.

Shared with friends on a weekend tasting, it was the highlight of the meeting. Pitch black pour, dark chocolate, vanilla, nuts, caramel. The mouthfeel is smooth and pleasant. World class beer.

L - pours a deep black, small golden head forms -less than 1/4" - nice lacing
S - Damn, straight honey to the face - thick deep honey its strong and inviting - tons of chocolate
T - Holy hell this is thick, full body molasses/honey goodness. everything you want in an imperial barrel aged stout - vanilla cream, hazelnut coffee creamer was added, its must have been. Amazing!
F - Super smooth, coates the throat with honey. good for a cold, or a winter night, or anytime, this is great.
O - Surprisingly underrated in my opinion, this would stand right up against the bourbon county lineup if they made a honey/chocolate variant.

C1 12/17/14, 220z bottle poured into teku glass

A- pours thick and pitch black in color with a small foamy brown head that disappears almost completely, leaving just a ring around the glass

S- big shot of bourbon on the nose with notes of oak, vanilla, toasted coconut, caramel & barrel juice. Underlying aromas of dark chocolate, coffee & toasted walnut. I didn't think the honey would be noticeable on the aroma, but it has a nice sweetness at the end

T- heavy bourbon barrel opens up with big notes of barrel juice, toasted oak, melted caramel, vanilla bean and roasted nuts. Underlying hints of coffee and fig set up for a finish of more bourbon and chocolate, lingers of toasted coconut and caramel, with a sublet honey sweetness

M-medium-viscous body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel that finishes a bit chewy and warm

O- a bourbon forward stout, which is how I like it. Big and bold, with a subtle honey sweetness to balance it out, well done

Bottle from Joe. Thanks brah. Pitch black pour, small fizzy dark brown head. Huge anise aroma with some coconut, lots of bourbon and woody oak, roast, sweet chocolate, caramel, yum. Flavor follows with lots of bourbon and anise and settles into vanilla and caramel. Roast and chocolate are there, and there's an extra sweet tang that I assume is from the honey. Surprised how well this stands up to the barrels at only 8.5%. Rich body, medium low carbonation. Even better than expected.
