poured 12oz bottle into chalice. Bottled in fall of 2013.

A - Very dark, almost black with a blood red tinge around the edge. Thin brown head that fades away and leaves no lacing behind.

S - Smells like a nice RIS with big roasted malts, bitter chocolate, raspberry, and dark fruit. Hints of honey, vanilla, and oak come through as it warms.

T - Starts out with a mix of roasted malt, raspberry, and bitter chocolate. Dark fruits are noticeable in the middle along with hints of bourbon and honey. The finish really brings out the raspberry flavors.

M - Medium bodied with okay carbonation. Finish has a bit of tart/bitter feel to it.

O - This beer was good, but I think it would have been even better if it was not barrel aged. It seemed like the barrel aging made it a bit harsh, even after resting a year. I think it would be more raspberry and chocolate without sitting in a barrel.

Pretty sweet taste here. Did not get a lot of bourbon because of the immense raspberry presence. We probably did this beer an injustice by tasting it in line with KBS, CBS, World Wide and BCBCS. It just isn't the same style for me. But still, it was great once my taste buds adjusted. Got better as it warmed.

Wax sealed bomber poured into a teku. Acquired via IP trade with iHia

Appearance: A deep, dark brown with a tiny ring of foam. I could have sworn the foamy head had a bit of a red tinge to it, but it's probably my brain/eyes playing tricks on me knowing ahead of time that this has raspberry in it.

Smell: Raspberry hit me as soon as I opened the bottle. After pouring it, the smell reminds me of those dark chocolate covered raspberry gummy candies at Trader Joe's

Taste: Just like those previously mentioned candies. Bitter dark chocolate lingers as it warms up. Not picking up much of the bourbon barrel character though.

Mouthfeel: Not light, but not super heavy and viscous. Right in between. The raspberry sweetness and chocolatey bitterness tend to punch me in the mouth and I find myself sipping some water to recover.

Overall: The only similar beer I have had was BCBS Backyard Rye. Definitely enjoyed both and like the style. Nice to see that this is a regular seasonal release, so if you're in the mood, it can certainly be tracked down. Would certainly have this again if the opportunity presented itself.
