Thanks to FUwolfpacker for the trade and hooking me up with this beer. This was a fantastic stout! The flavors were were great. Poured nice and thick, big smell of raspberry, but not overpowering. Taste...right on...everythign was very very balanced...so much so that it tasted as if the recipe for the beer was measured out and test so that it was perfect...really nice! Overall, my first beer from Old Hickory and it was great!!!

Pours jet black with deep maroon highlights. This is a black hole of a beer, even held up to the sun, no light permeates this behemoth! Small red tinted head that faded almost immediately. Very sparse lacing. Lots of raspberry on the nose with hints of chocolate and coffee. On the tongue, lots of raspberry followed by dark chocolate and a hint of black coffee. Finishes slightly dry and astringent. Full bodied with little carbonation. Overall, an outstanding stout that lives up to the hype!

I let this one cellar for a while before finally opening it today. The label suggests Valentines day, but I waited a little longer to be rebellious. The appearance once poured into an imperial pint glass was black as night with a slight caramel colored head that settled to a thin layer on top. The aroma was molasses and honey with some chocolate notes and the slightness of raspberries, wonderful! I let it sit for a few minutes longer and then began to take small sips to appreciate this one. The taste was sweet, but not cloying, well balanced and the aroma matched the taste profile pretty consistently. It did not have that overly burned taste that some Imperial Stouts have, it was smooth and easily drinkable but you would have to be careful with this one because at 10 percent you could get yourself into some trouble. Unique among Imperial stouts because this one drinks much smoother and easier than many I have had. It would be a great dessert beer to end the night. Overall Olde Hickory has hit another home run.

Picked up the last bottle that I could find in the area today at The Dispensary in Apex.

A-Pitch black color and pours like motor oil. One finger, dark tan head, that fades.

S- Sweet roasted malts, rasberries, and a little bit of oak.

T- Sweet dark chocolate, honey, and raspberry puree up front. Then balanced out nicely with the roasted malt and mild oak flavor. The alcohol in the aftertaste is masked nicely by the tartness of the raspberries.

M- Nice smooth, velvety mouthfeel with a slightly higher carbonation level that I like in my imp stouts.

O-Excellent beer! I was a little apprehensive with the combination of raspberries and honey in a stout, but it balances out the bitterness of the roasted malts well. All the flavors blend perfectly together.

22oz waxed bottle, purchased at Brawleys, poured into the brand new Brawley's Snifter. Split with my pops

A- Pours a deep black with a very minimal tan head. No lacing to speak of on this one

S- Smells like those chewy chocolate raspberry candies. Strong chocolate and raspberry with subtle hints of coconut and bourbon.

T- This is where this beers really shines. Immediately there is a nice raspberry tartness followed by almost everything you get from Event Horizon. Chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and a little bit of coconut round this one off. A little heat comes off in the aftertaste

M- Medium thick beer. A little under carbonated but not enough to worry

D- this one tasted a little bigger than the alcohol % indicates but its a very smooth brew

Overall, I think I like the flavors of this one a little more than Event Horizon because I really like raspberries. But, all around I would say Event Horizon is a better beer. My dad isn't a huge fan of BA beers (or of Event horizon) but seemed to really enjoy this one. Another great BA offering from Olde Hickory.

dark brown, nearly opaque, save for a few touches of reddish highlights coming through on the side and the bottom of the glass. A huge head of tan foam, perhaps three inches high, came over the top and settled down only gradually,

The aroma was rich with fruit. This was very nicely done. You could definitely tell there was a nice sweet stout underneath though, as touches of chocolate and lactose came through from underneath of it. But the main player by far was ras[berry. Not overly tart, but enough to offset the rest of what was there. The flavor was more of the same. The initial taste was that of a rich milk stout, butt hat was very short-lived as sooner then later the fruit took over. I am a fan of fruit beers, and have had quite a few. They can go right or horribly wrong, Rich, almost decadent dessert like flavor here. Rich notes of cranberry sorbet like flavor swirled around in a light chocolate base, with hints of vanilla and a touch of bitter in the finish. This was by no means a heavy stout, nothing big about it at all, more subtle then anything. The feel was al little light, not as full as I would have wanted, however it was still done very well. Good carbonation and an easy sipper. I would guess the ABV was in the neighborhood of 5-6%, no more as this was easy to put down and did not really leave much of a lingering effect on me.

Large format bottle in a dfh glass

A black with a dark brown head that changes color into a medium tan head. No lacing, fast dissipating head, looks great.

S bitter chocolate, raspberry, malt, oak, dark malt, dark caramel, very complex.

T amazing! Dark chocolate and bitter chocolate beginning, the middle is a a sweet chocolate and heavy oak which leads into a vibrant raspberry and chocolate truffle flavor. The aftertaste is wonderful, dark chocolate covered raspberries, tastes like the ones you get at Godiva. It is amazing.

M thick, rich, smooth, extremely lightly carbonated, soft.

O DANG! One of the best beers I've ever had . I loved it! Not being a fan of combining fruit and chocolate, this beer was very surprising and has a wonderful fresh flavor. Nothing fake tasting and has a great profile.

Received this in a trade from n2185 today. I was too anxious to put it away!

A- a red-hued, semi-translucent espresso with a 1/8" white head that leaves a sticky lacing.

S- dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, raspberries, very faint vanilla

T- raspberry hits immediately and remains throughout. Bitter dark chocolate and a subtle cappuccino come in the middle. A sweet honey finish tops it off.

M- The balance of carbonation and viscous mouthfeel is amazing!

O- an incredible beer! This is the first Olde Hickory brew I have had and definitely won't be the last. The raspberry stands out, but does not dominate. I would love to try this again.

re-review

22oz waxed bottle into a snifter. 9/30/13 bottling date purchased and consumed 10/11/13.

Pours an opaque black with a creamy beige 1/2 inch head with a slight red hue to it that lasts for a good while.. Extremely attractive pour. The smell is in your face with chocolate and a good amount of raspberries. It's astonishingly aromatic with the raspberries...wow. The taste is insanely good. Its not sweet by any means, but its just so flavorful. You get the raspberries at first then it follows with chocolately goodness and a lingering amount of malty stoutness with a return of raspberries to your palate. This amazing taste lingers for a long while. ABV is undetectable on the palate. This would be a beer that would pair exceptional with a plethora of foods from chocolate cake to salmon to cheese. Full bodied but not syrupy, mild carbonation.

Overall this is possible my all time favorite beer. Highest praise.

Superb use of the fruit in this one. Aroma of fresh ripe raspberry, chocolate and honey. The palate is flush with the raspberry but of the fresh kind, thats slightly bitter with notes of the fleshy seeds, roasted coco nibs, toffee with a great weight to it all from the honey. A higher than usual level of carbonation and a slight brisk acidity really keeps it refreshing. Really long finish like a great wine. Again really nice use of the fruit in this stout, one of the better examples of an Impy fruit stout. I will also say that this needs some time and would benefit from some aging but would be perfect with Thanksgiving in a few weeks. Grab one before they are all gone.
