Pretty sweet taste here. Did not get a lot of bourbon because of the immense raspberry presence. We probably did this beer an injustice by tasting it in line with KBS, CBS, World Wide and BCBCS. It just isn't the same style for me. But still, it was great once my taste buds adjusted. Got better as it warmed.

Wax sealed bomber poured into a teku. Acquired via IP trade with iHia

Appearance: A deep, dark brown with a tiny ring of foam. I could have sworn the foamy head had a bit of a red tinge to it, but it's probably my brain/eyes playing tricks on me knowing ahead of time that this has raspberry in it.

Smell: Raspberry hit me as soon as I opened the bottle. After pouring it, the smell reminds me of those dark chocolate covered raspberry gummy candies at Trader Joe's

Taste: Just like those previously mentioned candies. Bitter dark chocolate lingers as it warms up. Not picking up much of the bourbon barrel character though.

Mouthfeel: Not light, but not super heavy and viscous. Right in between. The raspberry sweetness and chocolatey bitterness tend to punch me in the mouth and I find myself sipping some water to recover.

Overall: The only similar beer I have had was BCBS Backyard Rye. Definitely enjoyed both and like the style. Nice to see that this is a regular seasonal release, so if you're in the mood, it can certainly be tracked down. Would certainly have this again if the opportunity presented itself.

22oz Bottle

2013 Vintage

It seems I have been drinking a lot of beer from Wil lately. Again, Wil, thanks guy! A black hole of a beer, chalky even. So dark in fact that the head is even the color of cocoa powder. The foam grows to a velvety finger in height on an easy pour and slowly fades to a thin ring that manages to leave pencil thin drink lines.

The nose is both intense and mouthwatering. Chocolate of the darkest variety mingles with raspberry syrup boiled down to its most intense point. It's like a high quality raspberry truffle. Other berry fruitiness mingles with the intense raspberry. Honey adds a touch of sweetness to the already dessert qualities of this adult beverage. Soft coffee and cream wrap it up.

Raspberry syrup pops right off the bat, intense. The high cocoa content dark chocolate adds a soft herbal bitterness. The honey is noticeable with a residual sweetness that adds depth. Other dark berries mingle with the truffle, blackberry mostly. Hops add a little leafy, herbal bitterness that plays well. The roast is moderate and lets the adjuncts shine. This stout is insanely rich and delicious.

The body is luxuriously smooth with a manageable weight ringing in at full but not overly so. Although this beer is a sipper, and sweet, it's easy to handle and in no way cloying. The carbonation is active and adds a touch of liveliness.

Lindley Park is lively and rich. The raspberry bursts and with the dense chocolate flavors makes for dessert in a glass. With all the sugar in this beer to brew something this easy to drink with no cloying tendencies shows a deft hand at brewing. Pick this up if you come across any. It's a great beer. Thanks, Wil!
