Clear light amber with a nice two finger head that lasts and lasts. It falls slowly in sections leaving foamy mountains and very nice lacing.

Spicy, herbal, earthy in the nose. Multi-dimensional hop aroma that intrigues you and excites the senses.

Dryish flavor up front dominated by wonderful hop flavors. Super bitter, in a good way. Lingering hop flavor, not as sweet as some DIPA's, which is a nice change.

High attenuation leads to massive drinkablity in my book. The hop bitterness does not leave a bad aftertaste which makes it even more enjoyable. Try this beer if you are a hophead like me.

A- Very clear pale amber with about an inch of head and very big lacing.

S- Very much a hop bomb. Citrus and floral hops fill the nostrils.

T- Hops initially, hops in the middle, and hops after you swallow it. Pretty bitter beer, which I really love. Citrus and pine are the hops that I get from this beer. No malt, anywhere. Not in the background, not in the foreground period. Could be a bit more balanced, but with that being said, I do love hops, and love the way this beer tastes.

M- Easy on the mouth. Oily and a bit lighter than I originally expected, and the bitter aftertaste lingers for quite some time.

D- Due to how thin this beer is, it's easily drinkable. No notice of the 9% abv makes this something that I feel like I could session.

Thanks Miamifan1354 for trading me this beer!

Pours a dark gold with a thick crested head of foam that slowly subsides and clings. Smells of a weak grapefruit citrus with a metallic element. A note of toasted malt is present. Tastes a slightly fruity sweetness with plenty of malt, followed by a delicate and delicious herbal hop flavor that has grapefruit and citrus elements but isn't overpowered by them. A well balanced DIPA in the east coast style with a huge malt backbone. Delicious beer. Carbonation is quite low which makes the hops more enjoyable. Dangerously drinkable for it's %.

A malty, big and balanced IPA. Hopheads may not prefer this version but the hops seem to have more nuances when balanced this well.

Prime pours a nice clear not quite pale orange color. The head is generous and almost white. I find the smell to be slightly underwhelming for an imperial IPA but the taste is not. The flavors that I caught where cat piss, citrus, piny tingling on the sides of my tongue. The fuller body is just right for an imperial. Though this beer is not the best I have had it is a good example of an double IPA that smacks me with hops and keeps me wanting to drink more.

split a 22 oz. bomber in dupont circle with my girlfriend. very clear for a dipa. citrusy hop aroma and nice lacing left on the glass. much drier than i expected. as i hate thick, malty beers, i am leary of most dipa's. however, this was exceptional in my opinion. nice dry finish that didn't linger. definitely a hop bomb and gave me my hop fix for the night. extreme drinkability even at 9% abv.

awesome name and label too. definitely a repeat.

Poured into a regular pint glass, a coppery dark golden color. Head is good but lacing is not the stickiest. Smell is really nice, nothing overpowers but a good mix of hops and malty smell - alcohol is there but doesn't destroy the other aromas. Taste is very good, typical of the style and above average. Easily drinkable, more like an IPA than a double - somewhat deceptive, but not one I'd drink more than 3 of at a sitting. Very good example of the double IPA style.

Tasted on 1/20/10

22 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass. Beautiful orange color, the beer damn near glowed in the glass. Fluffy white head which stayed almost to the end. Assertive nose with citrus, spices and some kind of dark baked bread.

Super complex with just the right amount of carbonation. Orangeade, honey and malt prickled by hop freshness. Think toasted bread with sweet cream butter, orange marmalade and a little bit of fresh chopped rosemary on top.

Hoptimus Prime is everything I want and expect from this style. It has hops through and through and its high alcohol is beautifully blended within the layers of this beers complex structure.

Pour a rich, reddish copper with one finger of bone white head that sticks around for some time.

Smell consists of a faint piney aroma, complemented by citrus hints.

The taste comprises of rich citrus up front, with a strong malt backbone that effectively complements the hops without overpowering them.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with relatively lively carbonation.

I'd say the drinkability on this one is very nice. A solid double IPA that I have no problem drinking a bomber of by myself.

22 oz. bomber in a Sierra Nevada pint glass.

A: Copper, slightly cloudy with a 1/2 inch head that fades to 1/8 inch with good lacing.

S: Good malt smell, but cannot pick up any hop scent.

T: Not as much hop up front but good malt flavors. A good, not overpowering hop bitterness at the end. Love the malt!

M: Full alittle sticky. Good carbonation.

D: Cannot feel the ABV on this one as much and the hop bitterness at the end does not preclude me from having another, if I so choose.

Foamy pour that produces a golden colored body.

Aroma of citris hop and a trailing pine scent. Pine scent is dominant and fizzles out the citris notes.

Taste contains a smooth bitterness flavor, and the piney hop flavor is the primary makeup of the hop blend. Very little citric hop notes, as the finish of this beer is extremely dry.

Aftertase is pleasant with notes of pine, hay, and grass. Mouthfeel is fairly fluid, and ABV is hidden for a 9% beer. This beer tastes better as it warms up and other earthy flavors can be tasted.

Overall, a fantastic imperial IPA from Legacy.

A: Pours a Medium amber gold with a thick foamy head that settled to just a thin cap. Some lacing, but nothing over the top.

S: Of course the floral smell of hops hits you right away, but for a DIPA I expected more.

T: Bitter hops with light malt and some citrus.

M: Seemed a bit thin for a DIPA, but smooth and nicely carbonated.

D: Very easy to drink, nothing too special in the world of super-hopped beer.

Amber color with beautiful carbonation. Deep white head with lots of clumpy lacing on side of glass. Smells of distant floral peach/apricot/ citrus scent. Well balanced bitter and aroma hops hit the tongue nicely without assaulting. Cascade, Cents, Amirillo? Whatever it's nice on the aftertaste. Very drinkable for the ABV.
Nice.

bottle. poured a clear amber with a thick foamy head that retained itself well. smelled floral, spicy and grassy. alcohol and black pepper were detected. the taste: wow! lot's of things going on: black pepper & grapefruit... grassy, bitter and a little metallic. i don't have any notes on the maltiness except that it was sticky. oh yeah, and it was STRONG. very nice alcohol warmth. it's often pretty expensive... $6.99 or more per bottle... but it's absolutely worth it for hop lovers. A true hoppy hero!

Pours a clear orange/amber into a snifter with a small off-white head which quickly dissipates into a ring of larger bubbles around the edge. Only a tad bit of lacing around the glass as it drains.

Nose is piney and grassy hops with a little bit of citrus/orange peel and bubble gum.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Smooth and slick with hop oil and slightly dry in the finish.

Taste is bitter and hoppy, pine, some citrus and a bit of astringency in the back. A bit of sugar sweetness in the front keeps the hops in check.

Highly drinkable for 9% ABV. Nicely balanced and alcohol well hidden.

Overall this is a fairly mellow and nice example of the style. Not too bitter and a nice ratio of pine and citrus in the hops. Good carbonation keeps this plenty refreshing and enjoyable to drink.

Being a huge transformers fan as a kid I was very excited to finally give this beer a try.
Strong pour from a 22oz bomber into a Guinness 16oz Tulip Glass leaves a nice 1 inch head which quickly goes away.

A- Good Amber / Orangish Color.
Definitely Transparent.

S- Slight alcohol but Nice piney hop smell, Citrus is a little lacking.

T- Very nice. Bitterness starts off a little slow but seems to last slightly longer than other DIPA's that I've had in the past. Very nice balance overall.

D- Drinkibility is somewhat good, considering the Style & 9% abv.

Overall great beer! Not in the league of DFH 90 minute or Stone Ruination but clearly not a letdown at all.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle purchased at Derby Street Liquors, Hingham MA.

Appearance: Surprisingly clear. Amber. Lots of light foam that quickly fades. No lacing.

Smell: Mild malty aroma with no hint of hops at first. After a few minutes of air, an air of citrus hops begins to come through. Inviting.

Taste: Refreshing for a DIPA. Slightly malty and sweet and not overwhelmingly hoppy or bitter. Lots of citrus notes, especially orange. Great taste.

Mouthfeel: Good. Not creamy, not watery, not flat, just right.

Drinkability: Not my favorite beer in the style, but still very enjoyable. Could easily open and happily finish a few bottles.

Amazing balance to the palate. Perfect hops balance with slight maltieness and minimal sweetness. Ranks in my top 5 IPA bombers and will take #1 in my label/name category. Could make a trip to Reading, PA for this brewery. Amazing flavors develop as temperature warms on the traditional pint glass.

Great head and retention. Beautiful color. I wish I could stare at this more but I am going to start drinking.

Smells hoppy. Bout it.

Tastes hoppy but much smoother and more nuanced than expected. This is not your average hop bomb even if it claims to be.

It's a little blah on the pallat though.

Surprisingly drinkable.

A: Crystal clear, golden orange hue. poured from a 22 oz bottle into the new Sam Adams glass. No head after poor. Good bubbles running up to the top of the glass

S: Good piney, grapefruit aroma. Not overpowering for a IIPA, but nice.

T: Slightly sweet, light crystal malt taste, good medium bitterness all the way thru the taste to swallow. Grapefruit, piney taste. 9% alcohol beer very well hidden. No high alcohols. well done fermentation. Sweet, but not cloying.

M: Slick, medium body. nice bitterness left on the tongue

D: Very drinkable for a IIPA. Not as dry as a Pliney, but not overly sweet or thick like other IIPA's. You could easily drink a few of these with no problem.
