The beer poured a very pale straw with a white, low and compact head.

The aroma was saaz hops when first poured then a crisp maltiness and slight fruitiness.

The flavor was crisp with a light caramel and decent maltiness. Also present was a slight fruit and a surprizingly nice bittering component.

The finish was dry with a slight lingering bitterness, the body was medium light.

16.9 ounce bottle. The is almost more of a helles than an O'fest, but is very well done and from what I hear is closer to what is served in the Tents at the real thing.

The color is caramel with a large, foamy head. The aroma is mostly herbal German hops mixed with a lightly toasted maltiness. The taste is of lightly toasted, bready malts with a bigger than expected kick of noble hops. A little fruitiness starts a sip. This isn't quite as thick and malty as expected, still it isn't as light-bodied as the Hofbrau interpretation I had a few nights ago. This is highly drinkable, I'm a little surprised this is rated this low here. Anyway, now I'm curious to see what Westheimer's Ocktoberfest tastes like, I rarely see two of the same style of beer in one company's line-up, and I think the difference between the two would make an interesting taste test.

Brown tall bottle with a German Purity Law spiel and ingredients (Water, Malt, Hops).
Aroma: Lightly roasted malt, yeast, good Marzen/Oktoberfest smell, with a hint of lemon
Appearance: Very clear deep yellow with lots of carbonation streams feeding a half finger white head
Flavor: A fairly mild overall taste, clean, with a nice light malt start and a mild hop bitter finish. A touch of metal deep in the finish
Mouthfeel: A light-medium body, a bit overcarbed by not bad, very dry finish
Overall Impression: A lightweight Marzen for my money. Taste is clean but a touch bland. Mouthfeel is a bit too light and bubbly. Nothing terribly wrong with this beer, but it just doesn’t have much character. Needs more malt.

Appearance: Crystal clear dark golden in color with a large off-white head, which retains quite well. Numerous streams of carbonation rise rapidly to the surface. The lacing is thick and broken.

Aroma: Prominent aroma from the noble hops, as well as caramel and a distinct note of light fruit.

Taste: Begins with mildly tart malt, this soon gives way to a metallic note of hop bitterness which lingers on well past the end of the somewhat dry finish. Along the way there are hints of light fruit and even a slight nutty characteristic.

Mouth feel: Quite smooth and full-bodied, with just a hint of carbonation sting; quite exemplary.

Drinkability/notes: A excellent Marzen, superbly refreshing, it exudes quality and would be a superb session beer.

Presentation. Packaged in a sixteen ounce brown glass Euro-style longneck with a pop top crown. Served in a standard pint tap glass.

I got this at Hall's, one of the best sources for beer in the DFW area, and the store that got Central Market in trouble for carrying this beer. In Texas, stores cannot exclusively sell a beer in the state unless it's the store's brand. After Hall's reported Central Market's violation, they got mentioned both in the local papers and on the local tv news shows.

This beer is served in an unusual straight 4-pack of half-liter bottles, like some packages I've seen in Germany but rare here.

Pours out crystal-clear, golden, with a small head that dissipates reasonably quickly. Has a very nice toasted aroma. Body is medium, with malt flavor dominating, but not excessively sweet. Medium-low bitterness, with only a slight malty aftertaste.

A good, though a little light, example of the style.

This beer came in an inline four-pack under a sign reading: "Exclusive to Central Market". It's a tall, thin brown bottle, 1 pt, 0.9 fl.oz. The front label has a painting of what looks to be old-time Marsberg-Westheim and reads:

Westheimer Märzen
The original since 1862
Gräflich zu Stolberg'sche Brauerei Westheim

The back lists the ingredients: "Water, Malt, Hops", and invokes the Reinheitsgebot.

And to keep the TABC happy, the word "ALE" has been added.

There is a 2" foamy, white head sitting on a clear, clear, gold beer. There's just a hallucination of amber in the color. Several small spots of lacing. There are burnt crackers in the nose with a little schponk and chemical. Fruity in the front. Medium feel, a little watery tasting, but some decent malt underneath. Finishes quite bitter, fresh, a little nutty. This is an ok beer. It's quite fruity/nutty and a little cream and caramel develop with temperature. Decent, if bland.
