If you live in an old New England city, no doubt you've seen one of these. Someone turned a garage or a front building into a convenience store before the dawn of 7-11 or Store 24. This is one of them. You walk in and they've packed bread, fireworks, porn, cornflakes, etc. in. But proceed to the back and voila, Unibrue! And a great selection of other fine beer, such as Magic Hat, Smutty, Tuckerman's, etc. The cram them 'em. In fact, this place had Smutty's Pumkin Ale before anyone else. I gave it a low service mark because of the attitude of the gentleman (?) behind the counter. He's always there with his soirley attitude. Take this place for what it is in New Hampshire. In NH, most places carry only a "few" labels. This place over achieves.

Second of three places i visited on my quick trip to Portsmouth yesterday.

This place looks very non-descript and dirty, inside and out. It has about half the selection of Gary's. Lots of macros and semi-macros (Redhook, Shipyard) with a few English ales, some Smuttynose and a bottle each of old Manchester & Woodstock Inn beers. The guy at the cash refused to give me a discount on one of the expired beers prefering to charge full price or return it (though there was others on the shelves. Not sure if he's gonna pull them all or try his luck Not worth your time at all to come here.

Cabot Street is a dive local market embedded in a Neighborhood in Portsmouth. If you are a local (I live around the block) then you know if has a little bit of everything you might need and not want to go to far to get (papers, soda, beer, common grocery items, toilet paper etc.).

Update ---
It does have a decent small beer selection and receently (August 08) they have started to also carry Stone Pale, IPA, and Ruination.

Cabot has one large advantage. It says open every night until 11:45pm, the last minute you can legally buy beer in NH. The local supermarket with good selection (Fresh Market) and Gary's would have long since closed.

If it is late, find Cabot's on Cabot street.
