Poured into a stange glass. Pours clear golden with a thick white head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving splotchy lacing on the side of the glass. There are plentiful tiny bubbles rising in the beer. The aroma is of slightly sweet and bready malt with some faint fruity notes that are almost cider like. The aromas are not strong, but smell pretty clean. The tastes are mild and follow the nose. There's light breadiness with some faint sweetness from the malt. There are some herbal notes from the hops and that faint fruitiness is just present. The body is light with strong carbontion. The finish is crisp and dry and there is just a slight aftertaste. This beer is very drinkable and refreshing. This is an excellent beer. (732 characters)

On tap at the Mellow Mushroom in Greensboro.Poured into a standard pint glass a clear lighter golden with a thinner white head atop, aromas are of toasty grain and a bit mown grass mainly.A lighter to medium feel to the beer wich is good for the style, flavors have a real toasted quality and the hops give a good crispness to the finish. It seems lighter than the ABV.,it goes down very easily, a nice warm weather brew thats delicate but flavorful. (447 characters)

The beer pours a clear light yellow color with a small white head. The aroma is floral hops, grapes and wheat. The flavor is dominated by wheat as well as flowery and spicy hops. You also get some green grape flavors in the aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. (276 characters)

Aroma: Faint fruit esters with the malt combines with a slight hop aroma, low pils malt with slight gain, subtle fruit, very low hop, slight sulfur from the pils malt. Appearance: Rocky off-white slightly gold tinted 2” head that slowly melts and leaves thick ledges of lace on the glass as you drink it. Brilliantly clear pale straw gold, very fine bubbles. Aroma: German pils malt and grain finishes dry. The malt has a slight toast to biscuit combined with faint sulfur and lingers through the finish into the aftertaste. Soft rounded palate with a delicate flavor balance between the soft malt, slight fruit, medium low hop bitterness, finishes dry. Mouthfeel: fine textured feel from the carbonation, smooth, clean and crisp, medium light body, and medium carbonation, nothing harsh or astringent. Overall Impression: Clean, crisp, well balanced (852 characters)

500ml bottle, 4.8% ABV. Wow, this might very well be my first Kölsch, from, you know, Köln.

This beer pours a crystal clear, pale golden yellow colour, with two broad fingers of puffy, tightly foamy bone-white head, which leaves a few stellar arrays of honeycombed lace around the glass as it gently fades away.

It smells of grainy, lightly biscuity pale malt, a somewhat tart apple and pear fruitiness, a bit of mineral spa natural chemical astringency, and a dry earthy, dead leaf hoppiness. The taste is kind of gritty, bready cereal malt, more generally unsweetened drupe fruitiness, an increasing flinty minerality, one with Sulphur Mountain (Albertans should at least get that) written all over it, and static earthy, dry leafy hops.

The carbonation is a bit frizzy, and definitely frothy, the body just on the lee side of medium weight, and sort of low-brow in its smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the grainy cereal malt keeping it tight, while the minerality and hops, well they don't exactly fade to black either.

A pretty tasty, and enjoyable version of the style, and with a certain street cred, given its origins, but not the best Kölsch I've ever had - those new world brewers can just be a bitch to the establishment, eh? (1,242 characters)

Ah, what a relief. In this era where American craft brewers are marketing thick apple juice as kolsch, it's nice to quaff the real thing.

Pours a ripe gold, thin head. Smell is subdued, flowers on top and bitterness beneath. Taste is similar, a light crisp and almost pilsner like consistency. Mouthfeel is exceedingly crisp and clean. Drinkability is huge. (358 characters)

Pours a beautifully clear and crisp looking pale yellow with a very slight light orange tint and a stark white head that retains ok for the style and leaves decent lacing.

The nose is full of crisp lager-like grain with slight sweetness, but not that old german lager sweetness, legit sweetness. The hop presence is noticeable but quite grassy and european in nature. Not a bad thing, just a thing.

Hmmm. Quite the interesting kolsch here. Very similar to the german lagers were all used to, but the sweetness is indeed a little fruitier, but IMO, not quite fruity enough for the style. The hop presence is as described in the nose. The finish is less crisp than i would like, but is still ok. A little kiss of hop bitterness is there. Sweet malt lingers a bit in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is good carbonation wise, but is just a touch too viscous for the style. I would like the finish to be a little bit dryer as well. The combination of these things do not help to balance the slight sweetness in the malt profile.

Drinkability is solid, but again, could be better for the style. Could easily put a few away, but it could be easier as well, haha.

Overall, this is very close to being an incredible kolsch. It's just a matter of a few little things that combine to make it less than amazing, but certainly above average. A great summer lawnmower beer with a little more flavor than your average hot day swill. A good beer that fits into the unique and underappreciated niche of the Kolsch. (1,497 characters)

It'd been awhile since I had a Kolsch so I picked up Sünner's since it's supposed to be as close to a traditional Kolsch as can be.

The head on it was a strong two fingers and bubbly white. Color was extremely clear golden/yellow and I knew it would go well with the pizza I was going to eat!

It smelled of hops, barley and a hint of fruitiness but none of it was strong and all was balanced well.

The same can be said of the taste. It was very refreshing, very light, had a barley taste, a bit of hops and only a bit fruity at the end. This was a very light and balanced beer. (584 characters)

Sunner Kolsch is quite possibly the best example of the style that I've ever tasted. It pours the expected clear golden body beneath a two-finger thick head of white foam. The head retention is very good, and it leaves some very nice lacing about the glass. The aroma displays a sweetish, straightforward malt, a hint of yeasty fruitiness, and notes of floral hops. And the flavor follows suit, but in a fuller way. It's sweetish at first, then fruity, and finally florally hoppy with a light touch of spiciness as the bitterness rises. Somehow it comes to a balance before it leaves the mouth, and then it dries even more as the malt quickly erodes, leaving behind a gentle but solid bitterness and hints of floral, grassy, and spicy hops. Remarkably drinkable! (762 characters)

Poured from the 500ml bottle into a Stella stem glass. Body is a bright straw color with lively carbonation, topped by several fingers of fluffy white head that slowly dissipates to a thin coating over the course of a few minutes. Aroma of light, bready malt, mild ale yeast, and light, citrusy hops.
Palate is light, refreshing, and well-balanced. Slightly sweet, bready malt up front, with a nice dose of light, citrusy hops. Finish is crisp and dry. The body is well-carbonated, but not fizzy, and light enough to match the more subtle flavor profile of the style. Definitely a drinkable, refreshing beer, but still a notch or two below Reissdorf in the hierarchy of German kolschs. (686 characters)

A kolsch direct from the source = awesome. Except there's sediment all through the bottle and a good chance this baby's skunked, oh well. The pour went smoothly, thick cloudy head with nice lacing down the pint glass to reveal an brilliantly clear, golden color. Not much in the nose, maybe a bit of malty sweetness. Taste shows no signs of being oxidized or any off-flavors, just straightforward crisp, malty, smooth. I feel like a kolsch is drank more for the mouthfeel than the flavor - smooth, dry, refreshing. Sunner invented this style of beer, and delivers on this aspect. (579 characters)

500 mL bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance-Pale gold and brilliant clarity. Moderate white head has decent retention.

Aroma-Initially pours with a slight must to it. Fruity esters are medium low with pear in the forefront, followed by light cherries. Light bready malt and almost imperceptible noble hops linger in the background.

Flavor-Barely sweet from the outset with bready pils malt up front with a bit of almost corn-like flavor. Very low pear esters. Moderately low noble hop flavor with moderately low hop bitterness creeping up in the finish. Almost a slightly mineral crispness in the finish. As it warms, fruity esters increase to moderate, with some cherry in addition to the pear.

Mouthfeel-Medium light body with high carbonation. Well-attenuated, superbly crisp and thirst quenching.

A fantastic kölsch to be sure. Not as much fruit character as some, but enough to be quite delcious. I love it, and it's fantastic in the summer. (960 characters)

A finger of head on a clear, golden colored body with lots of bubbles coming up.
The aroma is a strong grain, hay and barnyard with a touch of lemon.
The taste is mild overall with a mild lemon bitterness and grain flavor.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Here's a perfect outdoor drink on a warm day to watch the world go by. (342 characters)
