L-An aggressive pour shows a clear golden brew with a 1 inch fluffy white head. This recedes to a thin film with little lacing.
S-subtle aroma of bready malts and maybe a hint of grassiness. Clean.
T- clean bready malt, grass, and a mineral component share the spotlight and are present throughout.
F- excellent carbonation level gives this beer a light dry mouthfeel.
O- This is a fantastic example of the style which I'd highly recommend trying if you want to know what a good Kolsch is all about.

Poured into my tulip glass at cellar temperature.

Foam-wise, there's only a little centimeter-tall mass of white fizz that goes away instantly. Very pretty color, however. A brilliant golden sunset of perfect clarity.

The aroma is just awesome, bursting with rich, buttery bread. Add a little fruity touch of lemon or orange, some yeast, and light mineral-like grains, and it makes for a super-scrumptious smell.

Damn! What flavor! I can't explain it any better than as an exact representation of the aroma I just described. The bread, citrus, minerals, and grains just come together in a killer combo and then leave a crisp, clean finish of delightful mineral traces and yeast. Refreshing and delicious.

Killer feel, too. Light to medium in body, but with ample, lively carbonation.

While the kolsch is an ale by definition, this one walks a beautiful line between ale fruitiness and the clean minerals and grains of lagers. Masterful.

On tap into a stang.
Nice 1/2 finger white crown of tiny white bubbles on top of a clear gold, fairly faint nose with some apple, some grain and crackers, a little yeasty spice, some fresh cut grass, in the taste the flavors in the nose come out much more clearly, and it is very tasty. Mouthful is great: soft but crisp, ends dry. Very refreshing and tasty.

Beautiful clear yellow with a clean floral smell and taste. Taste is very pleasant, fruity, mild, and crisp. It went very nicely with grilled salmon. I look forward to drinking it again.

Aroma: Faint fruit esters with the malt combines with a slight hop aroma, low pils malt with slight gain, subtle fruit, very low hop, slight sulfur from the pils malt. Appearance: Rocky off-white slightly gold tinted 2” head that slowly melts and leaves thick ledges of lace on the glass as you drink it. Brilliantly clear pale straw gold, very fine bubbles. Aroma: German pils malt and grain finishes dry. The malt has a slight toast to biscuit combined with faint sulfur and lingers through the finish into the aftertaste. Soft rounded palate with a delicate flavor balance between the soft malt, slight fruit, medium low hop bitterness, finishes dry. Mouthfeel: fine textured feel from the carbonation, smooth, clean and crisp, medium light body, and medium carbonation, nothing harsh or astringent. Overall Impression: Clean, crisp, well balanced

L: Crystal clear body, high carbonation. Slightly darker than a larger, though similar. Pours a decent head that dissipates quickly.
S: Very mild, some flowery hop. Some bready malt.
T: Excellently balanced brew. Nothing overtakes the palate, but there is a nice malt body, honey graham cracker like flavor, nice hop floral notes. Definately a nice sweetness to this one that is rounded out by the hops. Simple, refreshing, and balanced.
F: Crisp, light body with a delicate bitterness. Bubbly
O: Highly enjoyable, probably very sessionable. There is a enough flavor here to satisfy any advocate while also having an approachability. Likewise this beer is highly refreshing.

Sweet grain aroma, fairly subtle. Graham cracker pils. Slightly fruity esters, pear and apple. Some spicy hops are notable. Grassy and crisp.

Pours light gold with white head. Clarity is quite good. Lacing is okay.

Much more fruit and hop character in the flavor. Pear and lemons. Spicy and floral hops. Soft, slightly sweet malts finishing with toasted bread. Hop bitterness is moderate. Nice mineral water character. Crisp clean and refreshing.

Medium light/light body with medium high carbonation. Mineral water character adds a nice complexity, almost feels acidic on the palate.

Very clean and easy drinking. Really dig the minerally flavors.

Bottle says best before 2/15, but still seems fresh.

Look - Pours a light honey golden color with a frothy white head. Very effervescent, small bubbles, very good distribution, good retention.

Smell - Bits of honey, straw, bread, steely noble hops. Subtle fruitiness.

Taste - Honey and straw again with a slightly bitter finish. Slight bit of peach and strawberry.

Feel - Very light and crisp, promotes salivation. Tingle on whole tongue.

Overall - An excellent easy drinking beer ideal for warm weather.

A: poured into a Stange to a light yellow with a two finger dense white head that retains well and leaves no lacing
S: smells of light malts, apple skin and some spicy hops
T: taste is light malts, some grapeyness, and some hop bitterness. swallow is a little pale malt, more grape and some spicy hop
M: light in body with prickly carbonation and a slightly drying finish
O: A nice and light beer with some good flavors and complexity. the grapeyness is a bit of a surprise but it fits the style and it kind of tastes like fruity pebbles.

Poured from a pint bottle into Kolsch glass, clear bright golden color, 2 finger head, light lacing decent retention tight bubbles, excellent carbonation

Aroma had a nice malty slightly grassy, with just a hint of some european hoppiness

Taste had a white grape fruitiness with some grains, very slight bitterness of hops in back

Crisp clean and refreshing mouthfeel that finishes with a slight hop at the end. Very pleasing.

Overall, this is an outstanding example of the true German version of this ale, and not a hint of skunkiness in my bottles. Proper importing is key to these types, and they can't sit forever. Buy them from a store that keeps them in the dark and you will be rewarded. Go out and look for this one.

Poured into a fluted pilsner glass.

Look: Pure golden colored body. Foamy white head with decent retention. Light soapy lacing.

Aroma: Malt grains, slight grassiness, and a bit of a tangy note.

Taste: A clean grain beginning, a hint of lemongrass, tea tang finish.

Mouthfeel: Very crisp, clean.

Overall: Just a slight skunky note about this that keeps it from being fantastic. Very clean and refreshing though.

A: Golden copper clear filtered with lots of fine bubbled carbonation, a finger of yellowish white head that fades fast.

S: White grapes, white wine or grape juice, lightly toasted malts.

T: Deep rich lightly toasted malts and dough, light white grapes and grape juice. Light bitter hopping on the end.

M: Light body, lots of carbonation, dry finish.

O: Awesome standard for this style. The best kolsch I’ve ever had. Dry and smooth, nice vinous scents and doughy taste. Drank at Turkey Creek June 28, 2014 on my daughter’s second birthday.

Brilliant golden, lingering white, frothy head.

Floral, grainy, sweet.

Grainy, somewhat tart/metallic, banana, light cardboard oxidation , fairly bitter finish.

Body is a little full, with modest carbonation and light alcohol warmth.

Served too warm. Would like to taste fresh and cold.

06/17/14 Served in a pint glass but I wish it was smaller at Rattle n Hum, NYC. As a Kolsch, this needs to be consumed very, very cold. Very enjoyable & true to style. Why mess with success?

04/24/13 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. So nice I did it twice. Very pleasant. All things going for this one. Inviting is the word that comes to mind. I'm partial to klosch brews & this one hit the spot. If its warm & sunny, lay down your money for Sunner Klosch.

16.9 oz. bottle poured into craft beer glass (wide-mouthed stick)

L: yellow-gold water, so clear you think it's a mirror; nice 1-inch head of white foam that's sticking nicely at the top; keeps a light skin of foam and a thick collar considering very few bubbles are floating up in the column; lacing also some on the way down, not a ton

S: bread malt ... wow ... like bread dough and baking bread and every other kind of bread; fruitiness showing up as we go; butter

T: plenty of bread malt sweetness with also some very light fruitiness ... peach, apple -- just hints of those but there's some definite fruity sweetness to it, almost like an English pale ale; next to no hop presence of any kind, only the slightest of slight hint of earth or black pepper

F: soft ... feels under-carbonated and watery ... perfect for summer drinking but just a bit flat

O: yummy and very drinkable but nothing overly remarkable; a good kolsch, not necessarily great, mainly because it feels so soft/flat

22oz bottle poured into a mug.

Pours a crystal clear deep good with a fluffy two finger white head. Head retention is awesome as some sort of head lasts all the way through the drink. Lacing leaves a bit to be desired, though.

Aroma is very bready with some light touches of caramel along with floral notes from the hops. Very soft and delicate and true to the style.

The flavor is also quite bready with touches of biscuit. Grass from the hops is subtle but noticeable. Bitterness is on the light side with a very soft, silky mouthfeel. The finish is a touch sweet but drinkability is still high.

Overall, this is a very nice kolsch and a great lawnmower beer. If this were readily available and cheap I would drink it constantly.

a: perfect for style; light straw, brilliant clarity with a finger+ of snow white head that left no lace.

s: skunky; definite flaw. Under that the promise of Kolsch wonderment.

t: OK. Pretty well balanced and hint of the malty sweetness the style is known for. A trifle thin and a tad over-hopped? Here the flaws of this beer were totally exposed when tasting back to back against homebrews. Skunky and bitter--maybe a tad sour--when pitted against homebrewed exemplars.

m: As a lawnmower high 40's low 50's kind of beer not much to say.

0: I disagree that this is a very good beer. If you have never experienced the magic of Kolsch this is definitely a must try. If you know Kolsch it's pretty lame as Kolsch is fragile and best drunk young before even minor amts of oxidation turn it into just another quickly forgotten thirst quencher.

Bottle poured into glass

Pours a clear, golden yellow with a steady stream of carbonation that creates a a billowy, white two finger foam cap. Settles to a white layer with very nice lacings.

Aromas of grassy, herbal and sweet malt.

Crisp , light , active carbonation. Grassy hops, a hint of sweetness from the malts.

Nice light refreshing beer. Ideally suited for a hot. Sweltering summer day.

I love this style and drink Sunner everytime I see it on a menu. American breweries haven't nailed a good kolsch yet.

This is a light yellow beer with a white head and medium carbonation. Aroma is sweet grain and noble hops (grassy, herbal). Flavors are sweet grain upfront and some noble hop flavors. I also get some subtle apple or pear-like fruitiness from the yeast. Mouthfeel is crisp with a dry finish..

Poured into a kolsch stange from a small keg. Pours light straw amber with a healthy two finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt with slight wheat and citrus. Flavor is also dominated by biscuit malt, with faint apple juice, lightly tart. Finishes crackery with light grassy hops. Light to medium bodied. An unusual opportunity to try a relatively fresh kegged kolsch. The style is not intensely flavored so this fresh version was not noticeably an improvement on the bottled versions, but it was interesting to be able to drink it fresh from the tap. I nice, classic kolsch that was a pleasure to drink.

A light yellow in color with a thin white head. Aromas of fresh grain and a hint of sulfur. Taste begins with a clean zesty, spicy hop flavor, followed by a cracker malt middle, and clean dry finish. Mouthfeel is good. Overall a good Kolsch that I would get again.

16.9 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a golden straw yellow color with great clarity and bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: bready and pale malts followed by some grassy hops.

Taste: Pretty tasty beer. Chewy pilsner malts, sweet pale malts, grassy hops, and slight bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium bodied, crisp, refreshing, a little dry, chewy, and very enjoyable.

Overall: One of the originals and very enjoyable. More people should have an opportunity to try this beer out.

500ml bottle, 4.8% ABV. Wow, this might very well be my first Kölsch, from, you know, Köln.

This beer pours a crystal clear, pale golden yellow colour, with two broad fingers of puffy, tightly foamy bone-white head, which leaves a few stellar arrays of honeycombed lace around the glass as it gently fades away.

It smells of grainy, lightly biscuity pale malt, a somewhat tart apple and pear fruitiness, a bit of mineral spa natural chemical astringency, and a dry earthy, dead leaf hoppiness. The taste is kind of gritty, bready cereal malt, more generally unsweetened drupe fruitiness, an increasing flinty minerality, one with Sulphur Mountain (Albertans should at least get that) written all over it, and static earthy, dry leafy hops.

The carbonation is a bit frizzy, and definitely frothy, the body just on the lee side of medium weight, and sort of low-brow in its smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the grainy cereal malt keeping it tight, while the minerality and hops, well they don't exactly fade to black either.

A pretty tasty, and enjoyable version of the style, and with a certain street cred, given its origins, but not the best Kölsch I've ever had - those new world brewers can just be a bitch to the establishment, eh?

Pours a clear golden color with a finger width foamy and carbonated head. Head retention is okay. Lacing is decent. There is quite a bit of carbonation as well. Has typical lager grainy aroma. Slight hints of fruit. Has a very nice smooth taste. Not overly carbonated. Very malty up front with more of a straw like taste in the back. Light bodied. Slightly bitter aftertaste. Decent beer, although not really my style.
