Very pale amber with steady taupe froth.
Caramel biscuit and oily floral hop nose.
Marmalade on table water cracker, a slight tannic edge, then a nip of orange rind and pine hops.
Lemon zest finish and mildy bitter iced tea linger.
Light, crisp, watery.

Labelled as a "pale amber ale". Designed to fall into the <2.8% reduced duty bracket for beer taxes in Britain, but made with Chinook and Cascade hops.

Can't help but be a touch thin with such low gravity. Crystal and Munich used to good effect, not sure the Black - I'm assuming it's that bit of acidity - is needed. Not near an APA, but more of a hop dose than some English blondes. If that's true at this strength, how far off target could it be?

500ml Bottle bought for me by my son-in-law (knowing I'd never buy such a beer): BBD 31 Mar 2014, poured into an 'Old Speckled Hen' badged vase shaped pint glass on 19 Aug 2013.

Just had a heavy Chinese take-away and need something light: this was in the beer cooler.

Looks fine: a good solid copper/amber body with a thin white head, the beer appeared bright and clean.

Pleasant biscuity malt aroma with a mild floral feel.

The taste is also on the malt biscuit side of things and it is only mid-mouthful that the alcohol content lets the brew down and you realise how watery the actual beer is.

It is fine for my needs at the moment: after that Chinky: however I'd be less impressed if I'd been served it in a pub or at a mates house.

Scored objectively.

Copper coloured beer with a fair head and a very pleasant floral hop aroma with a hint of biscuity malt. This has a watery feel which perhaps makes it seem over carbonated, but despite that I register pleasant hop flavours here, beginning floral, became metallic, and ending with a nice herbal hose water finish. This may be the best of the recent batch of sub 2.8% abv beers incentivised by the government's tax regime that I've sampled.

500ml Bottle from Morrisons (£1.50):
Orange amber with a creamy looking, thumb sized white head, some lacing & good retention.

Light floral and hop filled aroma with some light, caramel malts and some lemony, citrus notes on top of these. There is a slight metallic aroma around the middle and it is rounded off with a little fruit and spice.

Earthy malts, a little spice and some earthy hops as well. There is a little citrus and some fruity bitterness. Pretty bland and watery at parts with some bitterness.

Light medium bodied and quite clean and crisp with a sharp, citrus tang and moderate bitterness. Overall the beer is a little watery though and carbonation is low to medium.

Very average, relatively low strength beer that was a little bland and unexciting with every flavour to subdued with them all just blending together in one pretty poor beer.
