Easygoing—like the sunny shores of English Bay itself. Out of the bottle you’ll notice the rich, coppery colour and caramel malt flavour up front, balanced with a dry roasted finish that’s sure to put a smile on your face. Just grill up some burgers, kebabs or tenderloin—and chill

Pours golden yellow with medium foamy head. Decent pale ale poured on draught next door to Granville Brewery in Vancouver at The Keg while they were on strike. Okay English pale at an easy drinking 5% ABV.

English Bay Pale Ale from Granville Island Brewing Company in Vancouver, British Columbia. 5% alc.
This beer pours a frothy off-white head that lingers for several minutes.
The colour of the beer is reddish copper. Nice glass lacing.
Smell is malt forward with a hint of coriander.
Taste is sweet malt that has a hint of bitterness on the back end.
Mouthfeel is a bit watery.
The beer is light to medium bodied.
Finish is kind of smooth.
I’ve had this at the brewery in 2006 and really enjoyed it.
Overall, it’s a decent beer for the style.
Final grade: B+

A: The beer is clear amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that left a wide collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of caramel and toasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is a bit sweet and has flavors of toasted malts with bits of caramel.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer seems to be a little sweeter compared to other beers in the style.
Serving type: can

A well done English ale from Granville. I was surprised by the dark copper colour. The taste reminds me of a true English bitter. I think it would have been cool if they dropped the pale ale name and called it an English Bitter. The head is thick at first but dissipates quickly. Taste is excellent with some serious malt presence.
I'm surprised by this beer and will be getting it more often. I think it deserves a higher rating, but it may be the pale ale name that is throwing people off!

This was a decent beer, but nothing was memorable about it. They have others that are much better.

Served lightly chilled in a bottle at Toronto Pearson Airport. Very inoffensive, sweet, malty, a little bitter, which I guess is true to type. About right for the setting.
