This beer was left at my house by a friend. I think as a prank. I was about to just toss it out then decided to just give it a go.

Incredibly yellow, with a white head that fizzes up then thins out quickly. That smell is its most defining characteristic. It smells like corn, corn and more corn. I don't mind corn. But not in beer.

The taste is more offensive the more you drink it. I gave it a 1.25 based on what it is lacking, but that seems generous after a few more sips. Up front it's watery, but the more I live with the taste in my mouth the more the it just makes me think of what it might be like to suck on a penny.

I do not care for the watery, fizz at all. I hate it. I hate it so much.

The rest of this is going down the drain.

Frio Light has a thick, white head, a clear, very light straw, bubbly appearance, and pretty much no lacing left on the glass. The aroma is strong, right after the can is popped open. The smell is of an odd grape skin and some very thin grain odor. Taste is of faint grain and some background grape skin. Mouthfeel is light and watery. Frio Light finishes decently refreshing and dull. Overall, this is not too good. I would suggest avoiding it.

Sooo, this just showed up at the local grocers for $1.25 for a 24 oz can and $3.97 for a sixer of tall boys. I opted for a cheap 24 oz'er. Can pours a ultra clear, light yellow color with the fizziest white head that I have ever seen. Dissipates to absolutely nothing is less than 2 seconds. Atrocious looking brew.

Smells like carpet cleaner, no beer redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Taste is so damn light, it might be the closest beer to water. There is still a solventy alcohol flavor that makes me thank the Lord this only clocks in at 4%. Mouthfeel is fizzy and typical for the style, but oh so watery. No malt or hops whatsoever...maybe 1 oz per 100 gal batch?...of each :) This is not good at all, I do like a good, cheap AAL once in a while but this is pretty bad. I cant see myself buying it again. I did however finish my 24 oz sample, so sadly I think there will be some buyers for this. Big Flats comes to mind as I slurp down the dregs...

This is the absolute worst beer that I have ever tasted.

Poured a light, piss colored, see-through blond, with a white foamy, non-lasting head. It does have some lacing.

This smells like boiled potatoes, for crissake!

Taste is like water that has been mixed with a sir peary that went flat and skunky.

Not a hop to be had.... this is just aweful... a horrible beer-like fluid.

Appearance: Clear, deep medium golden body, with a large, somewhat coarse white head, which retains fairly well. The lacing is thick and glass-coating, the carbonation quickly rises in fine clouds.

Aroma: Lots of cooked vegetables dominate the aroma, along with a mineral note, and mild herbal hops.

Taste: Opens with a mild cooked corn note. Throughout there is a very weak hop presence, and a bit of hot solvent alcohol. Finishes with a faint bitterness.

Mouth feel: Thin with zesty carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Not great, but could be a lawn-mower beer on a hot summer day. Its cheap enough, but one could do better for the price paid.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard sixteen-ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

16 fl oz silver aluminum can acquired at my local H-E-B grocery some weeks ago. Served into a Pinthouse Pizza branded conical pint glass in low altitude Austin, Texas. Expectations are below average. Reviewed live. Reviewed as a light/adjunct lager since the label identifies it as such. No ABV is listed on the label.

Per 12 fl oz: 92 calories. 2.8 carbs. 2.8g protein. .06g fat.

Served chilled. Side-poured gently as overcarbonation is anticipated.

A: No bubble show forms as it's poured.

Pours a one figner wide head of off-white colour. Horrendously thin, without any cream at all, and stale looking. No lacing at all. Retention is average - about 2 minutes. The complexion sucks. So does the consistency, which is uneven. Not a frothy or appealing head.

Body colour is a clear pale yellow of average vibrance. Clean, without any visible yeast. Appears adequately carbonated.

Admittedly, it's pretty bland looking, albeit to-style. Standard fare for a light lager.

Sm: Cereals, blonde malts, corn adjunct, clean barley, a generic malty sweetness, and the slightest hint of floral hop character. The adjunct presence is obvious. It's a standard aroma for a light lager, and luckily doesn't have the sickening medicinal sweetness or stale feel of inferior light lager aromas. I'm apprehensive but optimistic. I'll add that it does smell mostly like beer, not like water. And that's an important distinction.

No yeast character or alcohol is detectable.

An inoffensive aroma of average strength.

T/Mf: Cereals, corn adjunct, clean barley, sweet generic maltiness, and generic floral hop character. The malty sweetness comes through more in the taste than it did in the aroma, but it's still not medicinal or cloying. And it does have body and weight; it's not watery bland crapola. The adjunct may bother some, but I don't mind it so much here.

Light, smooth, and wet. Lightly crisp. Overcarbonated. Decent thickness.

Not oily, astringent, gushed, hot, boozy, or harsh.

Very shallow depth of flavour. Low intensity of flavour. Below average duration of flavour. It's a very simple build, but it does have cohesion, and to a small extent balance. While you won't find any complexity, subtlety, intricacy, or nuance here whatsoever, it's got a likable simplicity and there's a fair amount of flavour here given that it's a light lager.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through.

Dr: It's a drinkable brew and I think it's better than many light/adjunct lagers at the same price point. Certainly, Frio Light is an easy target for reviewers, but I think we need to give credit where it's due and acknowledge that this beer accomplishes its (admittedly meagre) goals. It's what you expect it to be when you buy it. I wouldn't personally buy it again, but it has its merits and perhaps those on a diet who still want to drink beer would find it quenching. I think it's fair to say that it's a fairly refreshing brew and you could do worse for a beer pong* or student beer. At the end of the day, it's an average light lager. I can't fault it for its style.
