did not have any food - though it looked somewhat like surprisingly-generic pub fare, and was certainly overpriced (touristy zone...)

the vibe was alright - seemed like they should be a seafood joint for some reason...

compared to most other places in town, their draft selection was a slight step above: Delirium, Kwak, Carling (ok, it falls off there...)... had a fair amount of bottles available (had a Adelscott there - not necessarily something you need to try)

if you happen to pass by it, don't hesitate to stop in, at least for one beer... Le Sous Bock is not that far away - and it's preferable: dingier vibe, way better bottle and draft selection

for a joint with an English name, pretty lame that the bartenders won't/don't speak English - you'd think the name alone would draw in English-speakers by majority...

Near the Pompidou center, Notre Dame, and a bunch of Paris tourist locations. I dont really like the location, busy, touristy, down the street from a bunch of sleazy sex shops. Nice, but not amazing beer selections, I basically stuck with the La Choufe, or Duvel on tap. Sit at an outsoor table and watch the crowd go by. 12 on tap, with 25 cl pors in the $7 range and 50 cl pours in the $11 range (visited by the way when the dollar was at an all time low) Worth a stop if in the area. Not worth a special trip. Go to a less touristy neighborhood/spot, find a cafe/bar that has Leffe on tap, and enjoy a more "real" Paris experience. Service was kinda snooty and brusque to boot

Not too far from Au Trappiste, and worth a visit. However, Au Trappist has a better selection, albeit with comparative pricing. The atmosphere was more like an average Irish Pub setup, but wasn't overy concerned about the look of the place as I was hunting for beer.

Out of the three beer bars I visited, this was my least favorite. However, it is by no means a bad place and you can find plenty of decent brews.

Rue St. Denis makes this place worth venturing to, just in case you need an excuse to step in. Thanks again to the other reviews for pointing out.

Visited here in March 2006. Situated on Rue St Denis – the nearest Metro stop is probably Chatelet on line 1. The bar is about 10 minutes walk from the back of the Louvres… Further up the street are a load of sex shops if you’re interested !! Also not far from Au Trappiste...

Nice cosy atmosphere – although as it’s quite a small bar with a low ceiling it can get quite smokey. Service was average – English was spoken by the waiter that served us…

Decent beer selection (Belgians being the majority) although sadly not enough French brews…. this is Paris after all !! I had La Licorne (which is French) on tap which was just OK…. Also on tap was La Chouffe and Chimay Cinq Cints…

Didn’t try the food so can’t comment on it…

Certainly worth a try if you're in Paris although I prefer Au Trappiste and also Falstaff…

A nice pub/restaurant, and you can happily spend some hours here, even if the beer list in the menu is not that extensive. Lots of weird beer cocktails if you are into that.

This being lunchtime and I was still somewhat reduced from the night before, I just had a glass of Belgian Brigand ale, a sour ale that I didn't like that much. The food, roast pork with pasta, was quite nice, and well worth the 10 Euros they charged. There is a quite extensive menu of both snacks and more substantial food that goes well with beer.

One big advantage is that this establishement is close to many of the major tourist traps. Maybe you can send the rest of the family shopping while you spend the afternoon here?

A cozy bar with a nice terrace outside. Nothing to go crazy about, but the place's low ceiling and tamed light create a warm atmosphere.
They don't really advertise their beers from outside, I wouldn't have found the place had I not read a previous review. The beer list is quite large but remains somehow disappointing. Maybe 12 beers on tap, with Chimay and Chouffe being great picks, but with some lame beers there too. The bottled selection is not as good as le Sous-Bock's and a bit more expensive: weak on British beers and on German beers, consistent on Belgian beers, and not extraordinary on French beers.
It sometimes feels like these places promote more the number of their beers than their quality. The menu doesn't give any information, so how's anybody who doesn't know anything gonna choose? just according to the name? or the country? there's work to be done on this aspect, but this applies to many beer bars. I mean, the place didn't smell like beer love.

I didn't eat there, some people close to me were complaining that they had to wait too long to be served, but I think they were drunk already. The staff is not overly courteous, i didn't get a thanks when i left.

Prices of food seemed a bit more decent than prices of beer. Those aren't that bad, but just a bit more expensive than at le sous-bock, that's not far away and with a greater selection. I don't know if I'll go back there. Maybe to ask about the beers that are not on the menu that the other review mentioned.

Attention everyone:

This is not a brewpub like it is currently listed. Hall's Beer Tavern is its actual name. It is a beer bar and one of the finest in Paris. Located on one of my favorite streets in Paris: Rue St. Denis. It is interesting to note that is down the street from a beer bar of lesser excellence, that being Au Trappiste.

The beer list is very extensive, about 200, many of which are not on the menu. While I was here I had La Guillotine from Huyghe, Maredsous 10 from Moorgat and then went crazy and had two fantastic 1999 Thomas Hardy's. They also had about 12 beers on draft including La Chouffe.

Comfortable and lively atmosphere. The booths were large. Open air, both inside and outside. The staff was very friendly and even said, oh do I dare say it, yes, they said "thanks" when we left! In French ofcourse. Some of the waitresses were absolutely gorgeous.

I'll be back.
