5% abv, half liter can.
Pours orange amber, lots of fizzy strings, one finger head that sticks around and also nicely on my plastic glass.
Smell of sweet malts, corn, low caramel, bit of honey and faint grassy hops.
Taste follows the smell entirely, with an extra apple and pear fruitiness, but also a bad funky note to it, especially reflected in the bitterness from the finish and the lingering weird malts.
Watery, fizzy, a tiny bit boozy, which is weird for its relatively low abv.
Lots of off notes here, i'll probably avoid it anytime i'll be in the mood for a lager, amber or any other kind.

500 ml can purchased fro LCBO poured into a pint glass. Can states ABV is 5%.

Appearance - Amber, copper color in the glass. Highly effervescent, generous 2+ fingers of foam quick reduces into a nice white frothy cap. Low retention time on the head but some decent lacing is left.

Smell - Slightly grainy mixed with grass aromas. Nothing too interesting here, it's not offensive, but it's just another Euro Lager.

Taste - Not much here either, nothing offensive, but it's a beer with minimal flavor, a tiny twinge of of metallic flavor and nothing on the aftertaste. Cereal grains and light grassy flavors are barely detectable.

Mouthfeel - Thin and watery. Good thirst quencher, but definitely not a sipper. High carbonation. For whatever reason, enjoyed the mouthfeel.

Overall - Not overly impressed, but does a great job of quenching thirst and is about as inoffensive as can be.

500ml bottle 5,0% Abv.
Served chilled in a pint glass.
Canned on: 06/11/2012
Best Before: 04/02/2014

Appearance: As the name suggests, Faxe Amber pours a a clear golden amber colour. A standard pour yields a large white head that displays reasonable retention and even leaves a little bit of lacing.

Smell: Blegh, as expected the nose is full of maize and stale grain and is oddly skunky for a canned beer.

Taste: Wow, and I thought the nose was bad! The flavour is stale, watery and full maize, I think I might struggle to finish this one.

Mouthfeel: The body is light and watery and there is far too much harsh carbonation.

Overall: Another rubbish beer from Faxe.

Grabbed off LCBO shelf because i hadn't tried it before.

Pours a beautiful dark amber colour with half inch foam head. The foam is gone just a couple minutes later but the initial pour is a nice looking beer.

Not much smell at all, maybe slight breads, malt and alcohol.

Taste is caramel up front, some malts as well, finishes quite bitter and leaves a strange aftertaste.

Light body, would be a good drinkable beer if not for the aftertaste.

I notice its classed here as a dark, rather than an amber, but in either category I would reach for others first.

Random 500 mL can picked up from the LCBO; this can claims 5% abv instead of the 4.6% seen here. A vigorous pour reveals an attractive translucent light copper coloured brew topped with a finger of head that dissipates rather quickly. A soapy, off-white film is left behind on top, as well as a creamy collar around the edge. The smell is very faint and not all that interesting; mostly malty, caramel and biscuits; pretty typical amber lager fare.

Taste is quite approachable - lightly roasted biscuit malts, caramel and grains. There is some underlying and residual bitterness but sweet malts are the dominant flavour, which seems to be the case with this style of lager. Fairly light-bodied and watery, with moderate carbonation, just enough to make it a bit crisp. Quite refreshing for a brew that leans toward the sweet side.

Drinkable, but nothing that special. I may get it again; it's reasonably tasty and quite different from standard macro fare. A good alternative to Sleeman Honey Brown, without the honey part - if you're a fan of that beer but want to try something less sweet, you'll probably enjoy this. Nothing exciting, but nothing offensive either.

[Updated Feb. 23 2014]

Another can, this time compared side-by-side with some other amber lagers (Creemore Springs, Barking Squirrel and Sleeman Honey Brown). Not really anything new to report about this one - it's definitely one of the weaker offerings in that quartet, with an annoying caramel/corn syrup vibe that the other three beers lack. Thankfully, this beer is fairly watery and none of the flavours are particularly strong, or lingering. Given the price (basically 2 bucks a can) I really can't complain about this one - it's both drinkable and tolerable; better than some macro ambers but not at all comparable to most craft examples.

Final Grade: 3.18, a C+.

500ml Can

Appearance - Clear amber colour with a large size frothy and fizzy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some fairly good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, breads/grains, hops

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts and caramel. There is also a fair amount of hops and a bit of a pear sweetness. The beer finishes with a caramel/malty aftertaste.

Overall - I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. That's not saying it's anything spectacular, but it's not offensive and is quite drinkable. It actually reminded me a bit of a toned down English IPA. It would work well as a session beer.

Pours a dark copper color with moderate carbonation and a frothy lace of head. Smell is on the light side, but acceptable and it's hard to pinpoint and specific aromas. Goes down really smooth. Taste is typical dark lager which is pretty darn good and slight sensation or bittterness. Carbonation feels very minimal, but no complaints. Overall very drinkable beer, and would pick up another, but have not seen this in the states.

Appearance: Nice coppery amber color. Poured with about two fingers of dense foam. Settled within a minute to a cap-and-ring; left small bits of lacing.

Smell: Not a lot of aroma to detect. Slight hoppiness in the nose.

Taste: A timid amount of bitterness, not much contribution from malts.

Mouthfeel: Feels pretty light in the mouth. Not too much carbonation. Finishes dry.

Overall: Quite drinkable, but not remarkable. No glaring problems, but a little boring.

Clear golden amber apperance with thick white head that slowly disappears and decent lacing. Smell is sweet with a hint of bread, grain and caramel.

Taste consists of, apples, grain, sweetness, caramel and some bitterness. Not a bad combination, but has an alcoholic hint to it. Medium bodied with high carbonation. After taste is a lingering bitter caramel taste.

This beer is okay, different take on amber beers but feels in inconsistent. Not bad for the price. Try it out if you like sugary apple tastes.

Poured in a pint glass...

Appearance - i would have to say a beautiful deep copper colour, head dissolved fairly quickly to a minimal layer of head. The carbonation quickly disappeared and you saw the odd little floaters coming up.

Smell - I am saying there is a hint of sweet in the aroma and a touch of toasty malt.

Taste - Not a bad tasting beer, goes down smooth with a little after taste that leaves a distinct malt taste.

Mouthfeel - very lights mouth feel and even goes down a little smoother after "wandering the mouth" for a few seconds. Carbonation was very even and the beer almost comes to life.

Drinkability - I found this beer became more pleasurable as i drank more and more sips. Was a decent tasting beer and the taste became very pleasant after the first few mouthfuls. I would recommend this beer to anyone looking for a nice looking beer with a decent taste.
