Poured from a fridge-cold bottle into a tulip. Color is an opaque medium brown. There was a minimal, chocolate tinged head that stuck around, along with some bubbles and thin lacing.
Bourbon notes are there, also got brown sugar and vanilla. Finish is very dry with a touch of bitterness.
The body is lighter than I thought it'd be and almost crisp. Carbonation is fine.
Taste is more brown sugar with some vanilla, unimpressive to start. However, both the smell and taste of this beer improved dramatically as it warmed. I picked up burnt sugars and toffee flavors with a hint of booze, along with richer bourbon aromas.
Ultimately, the biggest issue I had with this beer is that the style just couldn't stand up to the barrel, and the flavors it imparted. Nevertheless, this was an enjoyable beer, and paired to a stronger base, it could have been great.
