I poured this offering into my Michelob chalice. There was no freshness date on the bottle. I grabbed a six-pack of this stuff when I was in Wisconsin last month and saved a bottle till tonight to review.

A: A vigorous pour gives 2 and 1/2 fingers of solid tan foam, for which "rocky" would be a good descriptor. The body is a clear dark mahogany, with deep blood-red highlights and orange hues on the side. The head leaves a little lacing, but not much.

S: The smell is very weak, but what I get out of it pleases me. It is mostly a malty aroma; earthy oak smells, mixed with sweet chocolate and caramel, roasted grains, alcohol, and wonderful bourbon smells as the head dissipates. There is also a faint aroma of ripe berries. Virtually no hops contributing to the aroma.

T: Bourbon flavor is very present at the first sip. Sweet caramel malt flavor, totally unaccompanied by any hops. However, that is not to say that the bitterness doesn't kick in towards the finish, rounding out this beers character. It is a well-balanced beer, with an interesting bourbon-vanilla twist that lingers in the aftertaste. My only qualm is that the taste is not terribly diverse.

M: Full bodied and smooth. It runs easily over the tongue, leaving behind a small amount of alcohol that numbs the tongue. The hops leave the mouth slightly dry after the swallow.

D: There is something about barrel-aged beer that gets me every time. I love that oak flavor/aroma. It makes me think, as I am sure others do as well, that the finished product is somehow more refined than other beers. Now, I know that is just bullshit, but one could say that the bourbon is imparting the beer with some of its mystical qualities. With that said, I enjoyed my six-pack.

The beer is a beautiful mahogany hue with tinged of russet and ruby. Small beige head. Aromas include oak, bourbon, wet wood, vanilla. Light sweetness with a gentle bourbon character and vanilla. Perhaps toasted almond cookies with a splash of chocolate and brown sugar. Thin body with fairly low carbonation. Lots of flavor packed into a <6% abv brew. Tasty.

A nice ruby red color with a bit of a cream colored head that quickly reduces down.

Smell starts out a little on the sweet side, then gets a bit boozy, likely from the bourbon. Also a bit of dried fruit and vanilla.

Starts out with a bit of fruit and some nutty notes. The booze notes then kick in, the bourbon is fairly noticeable in this one. Finishes with some lingering hop bitterness.

Feel is ok, the bourbon does add a bit of warming as you sip it.

Not a world beater as far as a bourbon aged beer goes, as it is lacking the complexity of the best ones. Still, there is a decent amount of flavor, and it goes down very easy. This is my first offering from this brewery, and not a bad first try.
