Pours out a bright orange brown and sits a crisp, deep amber-brown with a nice off-white head, leaving a good skim on the surface. Some lacings.
Smells nice and toasty, good malt base with an herbal hop aroma. Toffee and roasted nuts mingle about. A hint of woodiness lies beneath.
Tastes sweet and malty up front an soon gains a fair amount of hop bitterness. Toasted malts come through very well, parting a grainy like feel to the beer. Hops provide more than adequate amounts of bitterness and a nice herbal spiciness. Alcohol rises up of the back of the tounge and a light trace of bourbon is noticable, but held in quite well.
Crisp and clean feeling in the mouth, good carbonation, medium body. Nice dryness to that really pairs well with the wooden flavors offered.
One of Tyranena's best. Glad to hear that this will be a staple in their lineup and not just a seasonal offering. Miles ahead of their other Brown ale, and it seems that the key here is only parially aging this in bourbon barrels, rather than doing the whole thing. Well maintained flavors, a real winner.
