Pours into my glass a lightly hazy amber/red with a fizzy half inch of head and lots of active bubbles. Aromas start off with lightly toasty caramel malts. Nutty aromas alongside some fruit aspects as well. Herbal hops in the background. Pretty nice overall.

First sip brings nice caramel malt upfront along with some nutty undertones. Toasted grains flow into a nice grassy, herbal hoppiness that carries a touch of bitterness with it on the way down. Finishes clean and a bit dry.

Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp with a plenty of carbonation. An easy drinking alt that ends up being quite refreshing too. Overall, Headless Man is a tasty brew from Tyranena and one of my favorites from the regular lineup.

Modest finger’s worth of light tan foam, even surface, below average retention, meager lacing. The liquid is bright and shiny in spite of a slight silty film, brown in hue with an orange tint, only a few random sluggish bubbles visible. Sweet grains, cocoa, malt and a cleansing mineral water and earthiness to it, interesting blend of apricot, apple, plum to cherry fruit scents, moderate staying power. Light to medium-bodied, tight carbonated tingle, here the mineral water aspect stronger although that cocoa, caramel malt makes a good showing through the mouth entry. Bready, if not doughy, as it unfolds with a light nuttiness and peach, apricot, yellow apple fruit. Perks up some through the finish and certainly not overly sweet, just too demure for its own good.

This is an interesting interpretation of the Alt. It clearly has the malty and fruitiness of an ale, but there is something clean about it. Maybe it is all that carbonation that, for me, detracts from the fruit. Hops seem to balance the sweet .
Roger Probst selected this Amber Alt as among the "300 More Beers To Try Before You Die." And you know what, you will be better off taking his advice.

Pours dark amber with a slight haze under a 2” cream colored head. There is bread and a little light fruit on the nose and palate. A little bit of the alt character. Medium carbonation, medium body.
