12 ounce bottle; thanks to brewcrew76

Appearance: Thickly dark, very black with a thin brown head.

Aroma: Vanilla, caramel mixed strongly with an alcohol laced bourbon aroma. There are hints of roast or black coffee burnt smells. Smells pretty good if you ask me.

Taste: The upfront flavors are roasted with slivers of vanilla-y sweetness. Burnt roasted coffee mixed with dark chocolate seem to be present in the form of the dark roast flavors. The bourbon isn't heavy duty through the flavor, but it seems very balanced with the other flavors here. The mouthfeel is solid and the finish lingers; leaving bits of bourbon and vanilla on your tongue.

Notes: This beer is quite drinkable. There is quite a bit of complexity here and it seems that Tyranena has done a pretty nice job matching the beer up with the barrel here.

Appearance is pitch black with tan velvety head, nice lacing, decent head retention. Nose starts with some dark berries, cherries, and chocolate. Notes of vanilla and mellow bourbon come to the surface at the end. The taste is smooth and fruity up front which is integrated well with notes of dark chocolate. Vanilla rounds it out and makes for a nice smooth and well balanced flavor. Mouthfeel is bit on the light side with mellow carbonation. Overall, a well balanced and tasty brew.

12oz bottle received as an extra from maximum12, one of the best traders and all around awesome BAs.

Bottled 11/2012; poured into snifter. Opaque, black elixir, thin tan rim, scattered lacing.

Wonderful aroma of vanilla, bourbon, light burnt malt.

There's a lot mixed in here: the malt and hops duel over the nice bourbon backing, with a hop, bitterness balanced by the vanilla finish.

Medium body, nicely carbonated, smooth bittered backing.

Really well constructed brew. Can't believe this would be any better fresh.

12oz bottle from Todd. Thanks!

A: Dark mahogany pour with a very thin ring of light mocha colored head. A decent amount of legs on this one.

N: A very intense espresso rises up from the nose. There's some vanilla, and caramel, but it's more roasted coffee. Chocolate underpins this, and there's some blackberry and cherry, but it's not a rich bouquet of smells.

T: Sweet and roasty with a slight bitterness. There's a slight oaken sourness (not infected, just that kind of 'sharpness'). Bourbon runs through this, but it's missing an extra dimension.

M: On the lighter side given how big it is. Still a medium bodied beer, but I expect a more burly malt character to slosh around on the tongue.

O: A solid beer, and I'm glad to have tried it. Works well as a day to day drinker, but I'd appreciate more dimension throughout because it seems more like a porter and a half than an imperial porter.
