Poured from a 12 Oz Bottle. Aroma comes across as tropical fruit and resin in the nose, bold with guava and passionfruit seeds. Bronze amber pour with gold edge and rim of soapy white. Bubbly, sweet and heavy on the lime dryness. Moves into some spritzy Meyer lemon zest and a lot of great grass. Alcohol noses the nostrils. Great long floral hop finish. Rich. Fantastic hop utilization and good malt to back it up.

bottled May 23rd, 2007. yes, i know ipa's are not suppose to be aged. I found this in the cooler at the local shop. had to at least try it...
a - red-brown color with some floaties.
s - smells like a barleywine without any caramel sweetness.
t - actually quite a bit of hops flavor still there. tastes similar to a hoppy red ale. aftertaste isn't all that good.
m - surprisingly still a decent carbonation.
overall - very fun to try an ipa with 3 years on it.

Pours a dark amber in color. There was a nice quarter inch of off white head that formed on the pour, but it is quickly gone and now there's not much to speak of.
Smell is all malt and alcohol. This is obviously an older bottle. For being an older bottle and having had the hops subside the malt/alcohol flavor is very nice. Still has a decent amount of bitterness to it.
There's a nice roasty, malt back bone to this one. If you're in to cellared IPA's this one would be a very good candidate. Would have loved to try this fresh, but it's still a decent beer.

Received a bottle as an extra in a beer trade. No bottling date. Stubby twist off bottle with a yellow label.
Pours a murky rusty-brown with copper highlights. Mostly opaque. Fats moving carbonation, and a nice layer of off- white foam.
Smell dominated by malts, totally like prunes, caramel with some earthy notes. Not much in terms of hops left.
Medium bodied, with a light texture.
Very sweet up front with some dark fruit flavor, not much in terms of flavor or prune, caramel, and some earthy bitterness. Finishes dry with some earthy resin left on the palate.
At one time this may have been a fine DIPA. It is very drinkable but at this point the hops are lacking. I think I missed the peak on this brew.

I can't thank naproxen enough for the opportunity to try this brew, which I thought I would never get to try. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip.
Pours a hazy caramel brown that shows bright orange when held up to light. There is also a big tan head that sticks to glass handsomely on the way down.
The aroma very balanced with lots of citrus hops still showing after all this time in addition to some candied fruit aromas. However, there is plenty of caramel malts in the nose as well.
I really think the taste has suffered a little more than the nose with the age on this one. There are some floral pine hops up front before giving way to the caramel malts. There is a lingering dry bitterness in the finish. I think this would have been a seriously tasty beer when fresh.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly slick though the carbonation has held up well.
This is a good beer that has probably lost a little over time. I'm not sure about the ABV, but I doubt it's quite up to DIPA level and maybe that contributes to the age deterioration. Either, big thanks to Aliza for sending this gem along.

Pours an amber-ish light brown with a medium head that fades to a ring. Leaves nice lacing. No freshness date. The bottle has no abv, and neither does this site...hmmm.
smell is dried apricots, honey, hops, doughy, and a little alcohol.
taste is muddled definitely piney hops, some candied fruits, but nothing too distinguishing. Hides the alcohol from the smell till the very end when it comes out in the taste.
Mouthfeel is okay, kinda slick with a quick fade.
Can't say that I'm disappointed by this beer, but I'm not blown away either. I think it hides the alcohol well, but I can't tell since its not listed anywhere.

A - The color of melted caramel. No head to speak of. Lacing very thin and sparce, soapy.
S - Cooked peaches and apricots and delicious caramel. Sweet malts dominate after a few minutes in the glass.
T - Nice sweet caramel core, finishes fairly dry but no major hop profile.
M - Medium body, only slightly undercarbonated.
D - Could set a few back, but finish is not a promoter of the next sip.

A- Pours a hazy orange hue with a big, fluffy, 2 finger off white head.
S- Smells sweet, hints of piney hops.
T- Taste is piney with a thick, bready middle full of light fruit and caramel notes leading into a big, bitter, back end.
M- Medium bodied, decent carbonation.
D- This is definitely an enjoyable brew. Doesn't particularly stand out for me but I enjoyed it none the less.

Thanks to kkulacki for this one. Pours red brown, with lots of floaty sediment. Short dusting of foam on top. Sweet odor, with slightly spicy hops. Taste is sweet and bitter, mix of caramel and floral bitterness. Very strong and ethanol-laced. Syrupy, full bodied mouthfeel. A nice strong double IPA, definitely a hop-blast.

Looks like this bottle is about a year old now.
Initial pour was a reddish auburn color, darker than many DIPA's. A finger of foam sat on top, while bits of sediment hung in suspension below.
Tea aroma with some caramel and toffee. Bare suggestion of hops left after a year.
Caramel flavor is big, really malty, some hop bitterness is there and increases with bigger swigs. Spicy twang in the finish of herbal hops.
Drinkability is decent, it's still a very smooth DIPA. I'd want to revisit this fresh, but for now it's on the big and malty side.

(Served in an American pint glass)
A- This beer has a slightly dense but crystal clear deep apricot body with a sea of sluggish carbonation of tiny bubbles and a lumpy thin head of light tan that last for much of the beer.
S- The perfumed note of apricots gives way to a green hop nose with a slight spicy quality to it. There is a support of caramel malt and honey that works with the green finishing notes of hops.
T- This beer has a light fruity taste that is enveloped in a big green hop flavor with a nice spicy note that fades to a softer bitterness lingering after the sip. As the beer warms there are some slightly sweet malt notes in the initial fruity taste but the hops continue to grow in flavor.
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with no alcohol heat noticed.
D- This is another well-built delicious IPA. The hops had an interesting depth with the spice tasting like the heat of raw cinnamon without the flavor but there were also some nice Belgian yeast notes that were floral aswell.

12 ounce bottle, shaker pint.
A - Great color. Basically a glowing orange/ruby red. About a finger of head up top.
S - An inviting blend of citrusy hops/tropical fruit aromas.
T - A nice DIPA here. Hop bitterness is present all the way with some nice smoothing malts. A sweet flavor makes its presence knownand crreps into a tea like taste that gives way to a fairly bitter finish.
M - A tad thinner in the mouth than expected for the style.
D - A nice DIPA flavorwise. Pick up the body a little and this could really be a hit.

Thanks to Beertracker for the opportunity. Pours a hazed deep reddish copper color with a small head that settles to a thin ring around the glass. Great carbonation. Big sticky sweet caramel malts dominate the nose. They are backed up by a nice dose of piney hops and some alcohol. Taste is initially all hops, piney and resiny. Makes the mouth come alive. Hard to detect much else after that assault. As it warms the big caramel malts are easier to detect. Aftertaste lingers on the hops and that is fine by me. Another fine beer from their "Brewers Gone Wild" series.

The beers pours a cloudy medium red with a thick white head and thick sticky lacing.
A huge amount of orange with sweet malt hints is in the aroma.
The flavor follows threw with the promise the aroma gives: lots of orange, bitter grapefruit, balanced by a good amount of malt with a full body, pleasing mouthfeel, and crisp dry finish.
A very well made and drinkable beer. I wish I had more.

Pours a thick orange that starts with a big head that quickly turns to a lacing ring that sticks all the way down.
Smells of that great floral hop, both grapefruit and pine. If you have ever had one of the outstanding Tyranena brews you know of the character. If not, it's hop heavy and pleasing.
Tastes of big citrus hop, grapefruit and some orange with a pleasent compliment of malt to make it multidimensional.
Feels almost perfect, sticks enough to let the flavor soak in, but stays away from the cough syrup feel.
This has quickly turned into one of my favorite breweries. Which unfortunate for them has raised my standards for thier beer. But it also raises the bar at which I judge everything else. When it comes to hops few do it better than these guys. Great beer!!

12oz bottle sent to me by demcorhip. Thanks man! Poured into a pint glass.
Nice looking DIPA, but not much head, even off a vigorous pour. Nice lace though, and decent head retention, however little there is. Mild carbonation pierces the very hazey coppery-red brew. Loving all the particles in suspension. Aroma is a little muted for the style, but it contains lots of juicy tropical fruit aroma, mango, papaya, pineapple with a little bit of grapefruit and citrus rind. Light malty sweetness in the background, but it, like the rest of the aroma, is muted and mild.
The flavour is what the aroma said it would be. Lots of piney and herbal hops mixed with a decent grapefruit bitterness and juicy bittersweetness. Crackery malt backbone lends a little balance to the brew, but it's mostly hop-forward. My one complaint is that there seems to be an awkward and a soapy muddledness about the hop choices here, it makes that aftertaste a little unpleasant. Mouthfeel is surprisingly not as stringent as I think it should be, but it does make things buzz. Carbonation is about right and the body isn't overly heavy, so that's good. Unfortunately for Tyranena, this falls so short in many aspects compared to other offerings in this style. Instead of Double IPA this might just be a 1.5 IPA.

A stubby 12 oz bottle courtesy of JAYW, one of my top traders.
A: The ale is not quite as extra pale as the label advertises; instead it looks quite amber with brighter orange colors at the base of the mug and darker brown colors at the mouth of the glass. A white band of lace coats the inside of the glass, a pleasing remnant of the big head.
S: Even when the ale is cold, an undeniable aroma of hops, citrus and pine, peeks out of the beer. As it warms, thick resins, full of floral bite jump out, revealing a deep body with a strong alcohol content.
T: The ale just rolls of the tongue, biting hops create a delicious flavor that is paired with a strong malty body. The front of a sip is grainy, caramel and biscuit, with a touch of bitterness. Mid-sip transitions in the hops, citrusy with lots of bark and bite. Grapefruit and orange rind create a zesty taste that is accentuated by some more caramel. Vibrant hops see the ale away, allowing a pleasing bitterness to linger for a long time.
M: Excellent blend of citrusy hops and caramel malts. In an oxymoronic way, the flavors are subtly robust.
D: I liken this to Green Flash's West Coast IPA, part of the emerging San Diego or Extra Pale Ale movement. The result is a very drinkable beer with a memorable hop profile.

Pours a orange-ish copper color with a light tan head. In the aroma, big grapefruity hops. In the taste, very hoppy with grapefruity hops and a small maltiness to back it up. A small bitter, but mainly smooth mouthfeel and a bitter aftertaste. A nice bitterness and quite easy to drink, however a tad light for a I2PA.
