Yet another beer I got in the Secret Santa 08 bif from hwwty4. Thanks Bill.

A dark brown to black body that is completely opaque. Good sized brown head that settles down to a ring and leaves a little bit of lacing.

Another fantastic smelling porter from tyranena. Fresh coffee, roasted malts, and hints of oak and bourbon.

Reminds me a lot of a the devil made me do it, which I guess shouldn't be a surprise. Big bourbon and oak notes in this one that shine throughout from the beginning to end. Roasted malt, sweet caramel malt, some choclate flavor. Lots of coffee.

Another big creamy porter here. Smooth, velvety, medium carbonation.

This is a great beer. The big bourbon notes are balanced well by the coffee and roasted malt making it a beer that I drank entirely too fast. Definitely something I will seek out again.

Pours a deep opaque brown. Maybe one finger of head. Looks inviting.

Aroma is pronounced. Coffee beans. A soft bourbon vanilla sweetness. Nutty chocolate.

Taste follows the nose for the most part. Well executed coffee notes with subtle bourbon, vanilla and chocolate.

Medium mouthfeel. Moderate carbonation.

Very drinkable and well integrated BA coffee porter.

Bottle from Discount Liquors in Milwaukee.

Served alongside the standard version.

Similar appearance to the non barrel-aged version. Dark brown with a quarter inch of beige cap that leaves sparse lacing. Nice aroma, with everything present in the original, not overpowered by bourbon. A touch of oak and light, but present bourbon. Gentle sweetness. Sweet, powerful bourbon dancing with fresh, bitter coffee beans. Delightful. Well done.

4 pack $8.49 - great price for such a high quality beer

Poured from a bottle into an Imperial pint glass. Pours pitch black with a finger and a half dark tan head after a center pour.

The aroma is fantastic, the bourbon is there with chocolate and dark fruits, a little vanilla as well.

I love the way this tastes, the bourbon flavor isn't as pronounced as some of the barrel aged beers I've been fortunate enough to have tried, but it doesn't need to be.

Perfect mouthfeel for this style of porter.

Overall, I feel fortunate that a friend gave me a bottle of this to try, I went searching high and low for more. It was only after I found a case that I found out that this beer hadn't been released for many years.

Getting old saying this but once again a huge thanks to my cousin Sonny for sending this one up to me. Always been interested in Tyranena brews.

A- 12oz stubby bottle poured into a snifter with a pitch black, oily thick body. A small cap forms on the brew with a light tan hue and frothy texture. Lackluster head retention but coffee and barrels can hurt that. Small ring leaves spotty lace.

S- Dark roast coffee beans and bitterness right off the top with black grains. Cocoa powder, slight Bourbon whiskey and oak come to mind. Mostly the dark things in the beer here with just a bit of barrel.

T- The Bourbon barrel really comes into play here after being in the backdrop of the aroma. Coffee is still the dominant factor with the malts and barrel just beyond it. Dark, bitter heavily roasted beans joined by notes of dark chocolate, oats, some dark fruits, caramel, oaky vanilla sweetness, Bourbon whiskey and a medium sweetness.

MF- Thick and oily body that gets chewy with some agitation on the palate. Silky texture. Carbonation at a medium level and crisp. Finishes with a soothing warming on the palate.

A huge porter that delivers a fresh, dark roast coffee flavor melded nicely with the use of Bourbon barrels and roasted malts providing a great base. Coffee is probably the star but just behind it are the other elements and it all combines well.

12 oz. bottle poured into pint glass served slightly chilled.

A: Dark brown coming out of the bottle...almost black once in the glass. One finger brown head that fades to about a half finger, and then sticks around for awhile.

S: Smell is primarily coffee with a hint of bourbon and vanilla. Nice chocolate and hazelnut on the nose, as well. Smells nice.

T: Coffee dominates here. Only a trace of bourbon...kind of like bourbon soaked raisins. Definitely got the dark fruit going on, as well. More of the chocolate and nut flavor, as well. Ends slightly bitter and acidic with a linger chocolate and coffee taste.

M: Pretty thin mouthfeel for the style. Medium carbonation and pretty light body. Alcohol isn't really to prevalent, but this is "only" an 8% impy porter.

O: Pretty good all around. I like that the bourbon doesn't completely dominate like it does in other BB beers. Very heavy on the coffee, however. There are enough other subtle flavors to keep it interesting, but I would've liked just a bit less coffee. Still, this is a killer BB coffee porter at a reasonable price point ($10/4).

Appearance - Very dark brown. Appears opaque. Thin light brown head that remains only briefly.

Smell - Dark malts. Sweet caramel and toffee and, obviously, coffee.

Taste - Dark, rich, and sweet. Burnt toast, coffee, toffee, raisin. Noticeable alcohol.

Mouthfeel - Medium-full to full.

Overall - Rich and complex. Lots of flavors to taste here and they work together fine.

A- poured black, dark brown in the light. Little head.

S- Coffee with hint bourbon

T- vanilla to chocolate and bourbon with a bitter coffee finish. Coffee comes out more with a burning finish as it warms.

M- very light. This was a great beer but the mouthfeel hurts what is otherwise a stellar BB beer. As it warms the mouthfeel actually gets ever more watery and became a chore to drink.

O- just a bit more thickness and this beer would be world-class in my opinion. Will definitely seek it out yearly now.
