Pours a deep lightless black with 1/2 a pinky of fizzy burnt tan head that fades fast leaving some spotty lacing and oily residue behind. Smells fragrant of coffee beans, chocolate, anise, oat, bourbon, vanilla, and espresso, amazing for a porter. Tastes of mocha mixed with coffee right from the start, with flavors of roasted oat, vanilla, anise, roasted malt, and milk chocolate all joining in. Finishes strong with a blast of espresso as well as a touch of bourbon and some alcohol presence. Medium to medium full in body with light carbonation that dances on the tongue but a little watery. Creamy with lots of roasted coffee flavor and a nice hint of bourbon. I don't know what the ABV is on this, and it tastes so darn good I'm glad I don't. Thanks to everyone who helped me locate a liquor store that still had some of this in Minneapolis.

12 oz. bottle (twist off?) poured into a Duvel tulip style glass. Beer comes out dark brown and has slightly lighter edges wherever the liquid gets a little more shallow. Looks closer to black as it rises in the glass. Very thin tan head with small bubbles. It doesn't stick around long and not much in the way of lacing.

Smell is freaking awesome. Lots of roasted grain, but the dominant feature is the coffee. I love coffee so I'm a big fan of this. According to the bottle, 60% of the batch was brewed with coffee and aged in bourbon barrels and the other 40% was just brewed with coffee. The coffee is robust but blends quite well with the barrel. The bourbon provides a nice vanilla oak aroma but isn't too sweet.

Taste is equally as great, completely on par with the smell. Rich roasted dark grain and even a touch of hops noticed in the flavor. The coffee flavors are wonderful, its a medium roast yet still strong enough to be considered "robust" in my opinion Bourbon certainly pleasant, but it's mild, the vanilla oak flavors that come about aren't too strong, but everything meshes really well together.

Mouthfeel is good. A heavy medium feel overall, let's you know it's there, but not too heavy. Nice and silky smooth with a bitterness just before the end and a slightly warm finish. I wouldn't call it hot, but the bourbon provides an appropriate amount of heat. One thing I gotta say about this beer is that it's so dangerously drinkable. I can't believe how much flavor it packs while being so easy drinking. My first of hopefully many from this brewery. Thanks Matt for the killer extra.

Pours a deep opaque brown. Maybe one finger of head. Looks inviting.

Aroma is pronounced. Coffee beans. A soft bourbon vanilla sweetness. Nutty chocolate.

Taste follows the nose for the most part. Well executed coffee notes with subtle bourbon, vanilla and chocolate.

Medium mouthfeel. Moderate carbonation.

Very drinkable and well integrated BA coffee porter.

Bottle from Discount Liquors in Milwaukee.

Served alongside the standard version.

Similar appearance to the non barrel-aged version. Dark brown with a quarter inch of beige cap that leaves sparse lacing. Nice aroma, with everything present in the original, not overpowered by bourbon. A touch of oak and light, but present bourbon. Gentle sweetness. Sweet, powerful bourbon dancing with fresh, bitter coffee beans. Delightful. Well done.

4 pack $8.49 - great price for such a high quality beer

Poured from a bottle into an Imperial pint glass. Pours pitch black with a finger and a half dark tan head after a center pour.

The aroma is fantastic, the bourbon is there with chocolate and dark fruits, a little vanilla as well.

I love the way this tastes, the bourbon flavor isn't as pronounced as some of the barrel aged beers I've been fortunate enough to have tried, but it doesn't need to be.

Perfect mouthfeel for this style of porter.

Overall, I feel fortunate that a friend gave me a bottle of this to try, I went searching high and low for more. It was only after I found a case that I found out that this beer hadn't been released for many years.
