Poured from the bottle into a 18oz cheapo "Bud" glass.
Looks: Looks good with a orangish/nut brown ale color, not very clear more of a haze for sure and definately some "floaters" in this one (unfiltered?). Soft somewhat prickly 1" head that slowly disapates. Okay carbonation look so far. Head is slightly sticky to the mustache.
Smell: Citrusy Hoppy melon & other citrus a bit of pine smell with a touch of toasted sweet malt and a bit of spicyness for sure slight tinge of woody oak or beach.
Taste: Bitter and Tangy a bit of lemon & melon?
Not much malty flavor to speek of since the hops quickly overwhelm. A bit of fruityness in the flavor and I cannot pin it down but the more I drink it them more I notice It and like it!
I haven't seen anybody comment about the slight cinnamon taste yet and I must say it is a nice addition in this one. Bitter for sure and I recommend trying this one after you've had something a bit lighter or blander in the ale catagory before you try this one, at the wrong temperature all you get is bitter! Wierd?!
Mouthfeel: about average for an APA but smoother as I go which is odd. Perhaps the "floaters" suspended in the mix give it a better mouthfeel as I go since I can easily see them getting more numerous (Unfiltered? again?).
It keeps its nice prickly burning carb. level to the last drink and its sugary herbalness comes out as you go. It realy reminds me of a hyped and hopped up Summit Pale Ale and some other beer? - anyway at the end of my session. I had to revist this one three times before I decided to review it. Now I am hooked! This old bitter woman IS Bitter and if you can only stomach (or bare to stand) just a couple you are missing out! I had two one evening and thought that stuff gets a B- at best! But I thought well I bought a sixer and everyone deserves a second chance and now WOW!
APA or IPA lovers will probable like this one but it is not a beer where you just jump on board and love it. Surely not for all beer drinkers but is damn good!
