Pours a very clear, deep copper. Almost bright orange sitting in the glass. There's a giant pillowy, white head on top, looks very nice, fairly dense, and leaves decent lacing. A very nice looking IPA. The smell actually comes with malt upfront - biscuity and bready, with a hint of caramel. A moderate sweetness is apparent, but no toasty smells. Then there's a little bit of hoppy resins, a bit of some floral smells, with powdery pollen, and a tiny little zip of orange zest. Overall, kind of crisp and pleasant, but not quite as pungent as the average IPA. The taste starts off very interestingly, like a very strongly brewed tea. Light esters and some very leafy floral hops fill up the first sip. But it's all backed with a cakey, sweet bread taste. Then comes a hint of resins, with a nice punch of bitterness - this is where the slightest taste of citrus comes in, but mostly in the form of a rind. Then it finishes slightly herbal, and the leafy tastes come back, but not like piney or grassy, just like flowers and stems, kind of lightly powdery, a bit tart and green, but still kind of strong and earthy, too. An interesting hop presence to say the least. There's good balance too, between hops and malt, between dryness and sweetness. The body is nice and full, nearly chewy, which kind of slows me down, but it's really great. The carbonation is a bit low, there's a nip, but it's quite subdued. I really enjoyed drinking this. It's a good IPA, different, but I still sort of recognize it - there's a kind of a class of IPAs that this fits in, and I could see myself drinking a lot of this if I had the opportunity. It's not too powerful, not complex and not simple at the same time, with nothing out of balance. This is a good beer.
