Many thanks to my roommate for offering this beer to me. Here goes:

A: Not that great. Pours a clear brown with a head that dissipates immediately. Also no lacing. At all. On the bright side, the color is nice.

S: Better than the appearance, but not much going on here as well. Light pumpkin notes, i.e., cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. However, nowhere near as good as ST, CC, Alewerks or Schlafly. Kind of surprising given the alcohol content.

T: Good, but not great. Pumpkin spices, i.e., cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar. Also has a nice malt body consisting of caramel and amber malts. No hops are apparent.

F: Good, but rather light given the alcohol content. Kind of surprised that it wasn't thicker.

O: A good beer with severe drawbacks. There are better offerings within this style.

Had this in a tulip glass. Bottled on date Sept. 15, 2013.

The beer pours with little foam action, and only a white ring covers the top of the pumpkin ale. The opaque body is a glowing ruddy-orange with maple syrup highlights.

I could smell the spicing as soon as I cracked this one, and it was enticing! Very sweet nose with graham cracker, white bread, candied ginger, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Some very subtle clove also shows up with some agitation.

The palate of flavors begin with the graham cracker quality meshing with some earthiness and a subtle metallic flavor. The malt is more wheaty on the palate as well, not nearly as sweet. It is here that the allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon really come out in the finish, with a touch of vanilla. At first brush, this is disappointing because of the decadent nature of the nose, but it grows on the drinker.

Watery and slick over the tongue, with a decent and medium heft. A little dry with average flavor retention on the cheeks.

Painted Ladies is a worthy pumpkin ale that is well spiced and graced with a dessert-y pumpkin pie nose. Usually, highly spiced pumpkin's have an issue of being far too thin to support the flavors, but Tyranena's offering has no such problem thankfully. I would certainly have this pumpkin again!
