On tap at Wonders Pub served in a half liter Sam Adams stein.

Appearance: Orange copper body, slightly lighter then the average Marzen color, with a thick white head with great retention.

Aroma: Caramel and a touch of sweet generic fruit. Herbal hops with a tinge of metalicness.

Taste: Light toast, caramel, hints of strawberry, leafy finish.

Mouthfeel: On the light side. Round. Soft. Balanced with assertive carbonation.

Drinkability: Sessionable.

A bit lighter in all regards than I like but quite good none the less.

Purchased from Three Cellars in Franklin, WI. Pours a clear, orange-amber body with a thin white head. Aroma of toasty and biscuity malts. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a crisp carbonation. The malt flavor is just a bit thin. Pretty good, but not very memorable.

(Served in a mug)

A- This beer has a crystal clear amber body with a thin wisp of white film on the top and a slow carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- This soft dry tartness leads to a light toasted malt note and a bit of biscuit malt in the background.

T- The tart raw gran flavor had some toasted notes to it with a soft plastic quality to it. There was a noble hop note at the finish that had a light bit of spice to it when it warmed. There was also a sulfur flavor at the finish that increased with a pungency of the hops as the beer warmed.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel wit a fizzy finish.

D- After a few sips the sulfury hops really start to dominate the malt flavors and the tart flavor is a bit off aswell.

Where's Bierman9??? I need assistance translating the name here. According to the label, tt mean "the fondness for feasting, drinking and merry company". That is what it is all about, isn't it?
Pours a golden-brown body, with small white head. It doesn't last long, but leaves some edging and a little lace.
Full toasty aroma. Sizeable malt load is evident. Hops are certainly present, with some good ol' German spiciness.
Taste mirrors the aroma. Big toasted malt flavors. Spot-on for the style. Munich and carmel sweetness reside in the distance. The toastedness is definately the showcase here. Pretty dry all the way through. Finishes with roundhouse of spicy hops. Quite hoppy for the style, but it meshes well with the heavy toasted aspect.
Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Always lively.
Very pleasant and a great Autumn session. One of my favorite fall quaffers, as this screams "more".

12oz single, from Star Liquor I believe

appearance: pours into imperial pint glass...light amber-bronze body, very little head/lacing, clear and glowing

smell: light metallic hop presence, toasted malt, caramel, leaves

taste: pretty good, spicy metallic hop presence is higher than most others of the style i have had this season, toasted caramel malt, earthy/leaves, light bitterness...interesting take

mouthfeel: medium body, fairly high carbonation

drinkability: fine

Huge thanks to guinnessdoc for this one. You are the man, Josh.

Gemuetlichkeit? Ugh...wut??? For the uninformed (such as myself) that means "the fondness of feasting, drinking and merry company." Ahhh...I get it. Very fitting description of Oktoberfest. Nicely done.

As for the beer, it's very clear and a nice light copper color. The head is pretty modest and only reaches a finger deep. It's a light caramel color and recedes quickly. Lacing was on the lighter side.

The nose is slightly weak. It's close, but a little more muscle is needed. Yeasty and biscuity notes start it out. Sweet caramel and toasted malts follow. Hops are noted and drive it above average. I wasn't expecting much in the hop department. There's some subtle light fruit aromas that I can't identify. It's a pretty good smelling beer, it's just a little weak.

The flavor is a notch above the nose. That much is apparent on the first sip. A mix of toasted and caramel malts give it an excellent, tasty base. The hops add a nice buzzy kick and add a great deal of flavor and character. In fact, after a few sips, I've changed my mind. I love the flavor of this beer and it deserves a "4.5" score. Some light fruit and spice notes emerge on the tail end. A slight yeasty flavor sticks to the palate. Excellent stuff.

Its body is light and relatively smooth. Carbonation is fairly well restrained and doesn't distract. Drinkability is extremely high. I could drink this all night and then some. It's a damn shame Tyranena isn't on shelves outside Wisconsin. I'd love to get this annually in Ohio.

Tyranena's got a really impressive Oktoberfest here. What it lacks in the nose, it makes up for in flavor. Sure, a little work would go a long way on the nose. But, they nailed the flavor. Oktoberfest is one of those styles that generally doesn't "wow" me. But, the flavor of this one is shockingly good. Perhaps my expectations were tempered given the style. This one far exceeded them. Seek this one out. You won't be disappointed.

12 oz bottle poured into an Imperial Pint. Bottled on 11Aug09. A paragraph of info but no ABV.

A - Gemuetlichkeit has a beautiful, brilliant clear yellow-honeyed orange color but is sadly topped by an incredibly small and short-lived off-white head. No ring, layer, or lacing.

S - Grassy hops are immediately evident with a leaf-pile and dirt-like earthy nose. It's hard to get much beyond that but I can pick up mild notes of toasted malts. Not my favorite and a bit too hoppy in general for an Okto.

T - The nose foreshadows the flavor almost perfectly, it's definitely a hoppier oktoberfest with the same earthy, grassy hops upfront. The malts do shine a tad more than in the aroma though. The background has a weak toasty malt presence far too overshadowed for the style.

M - Crisp and light-bodied, it has a moderately sharp carbonation bite to the finish that ends dry. It's a bit watery feeling too.

D - The weakest Tyranena I've had by far, this oktoberfest is almost a pale (in flavor) lager. It's lacking a solid malt backbone to combat the overly hopped flavor. The finish gets drier and drier with each sip. Not a great example of what an oktoberfest can be. Plus it's grassy hops are far too potent. Blech.

Appearance - Medium amber. Clear. Medium off-white head that persists.

Smell - Light aroma of medium roasted malt.

Taste - Primarily sweet medium roasted malt. Toasty. A touch of bitterness and spice.

Mouthfeel - Light and crisp.

Overall - Nice rich malty Oktoberfest that is nonetheless relatively light. Maybe not the best of the bunch, but definitely quaffable.

clean looking with lots of carbonation sneaking up from the bottom. Formed a tight little head of maybe an inch on the top that faded down gradually and then left behind basically nothing.

The aroma was light, bready malts with a hint of a caramel sweetness. Light touch of grape like fruit in their providing a slight nose of sour. Rich tones working their way in the flavor though. Quick, clean hitting and crisp, this was a definite session beer to say the least. Nice well rounded malt flavor with a hint of light hops toward the end that were just enough to provide a nice touch of balance

poured 12oz bottle into stein!

A - Bronze/orange with a nice 2.5 finger head. Leaves a collar and swaths of lacing around the stein.

S - Grainy malty, and sweet bread. Light earthy and spicy hops.

T - Good amount of malts, grain, sweet bread and hints of caramel. Light earthy and spicy hops give it a bit more. Finishes with just a touch of dry spiciness.

M - On the lighter side with good carbonation and some dryness. Smooth and easy drinking even on a warm day.

O - Enjoyable Marzen that I look for in late summer.

12oz bottle poured into English pint.

A- Pours a nice dark copper with a nice pillowy two fingers worth of head. The head recedes quickly and leaves spotty lacing on the side of the glass.

S- I get more lager malts than anything else. I was hoping for a little bit of sweetness. I also pick up just a little bit of grass.

T- Some nice malts and a little sweetness but I am worried by a metallic taste. Some dark fruits in there as well.

M- Thin to medium bodied that seems to feel a little flat. I really can't tell that there is carbonation there at all.

D- Nothing about this beer sticks out to me. The flavors are bland and lacks carbonation. I hate to say it but I should have reached for a Staghorn.

12 oz brown twist-off bottle.

It pours a nice amberish/orange with a white head that sticks for a bit but doesn't leave much lacing.

The smell is simple, nutty grains and a bit of fruitiness.

The flavor almost brings a saltiniess. There is a noticeable hop bite, buttery malts and a hint of nuttiness. It is a bit sweet and bitter for the style.

It is middle-of-the-raod oktoberfest territory.

Thanks for this one, Jeff.

A: The beer pours a light amber color with a finger of white head.

S: Smells strongly of bubblegum...okay? A bit of bread and toasted malt. Some earthy hop notes and a definite caramel malt. Maybe a bit of metal to it, too.

T: Like the aroma, intense bubblegum flavor. Earthy hops with a light bitterness. Lots of caramel and toffee flavors with a little bit of spices. A little bit of toasted bread.

M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation.

O: The bubblegum just ruined this for me.
