A 12 oz. can pours into a pint glass with a modest quarter inch head, which dissapears in two minutes. The color is nice, a dense cola brown with coppery highlights about the fringes, top and bottom of the glass of the glass. The nose is pleasant, a toasty, woodsy, smoky brown ale sort of smell, with vanilla, caramel and chocolate notes. The smell gives scant hint of the taste explosion to come... a sweet, malty, boozy rush of madness reminiscent of Goose Island barrel aged brews, but with a saltiness that keeps this brew from the exalteds of this style. The mouthfeel is quite good, and less sticky than I would expect from a 12% ABV (2022). I find it quite enjoyable though, and at the store I purchased a 4pack assortment of Griffin Claw barrel aged beers, the price is also short of the exalteds. I look forward to trying the other beers in this 4-pack, and I do find this to be a perfectly enjoyable keeper.

Taste loads of chocolate, roasted coffee, peanutbutter, and big pepper heat, little barrel, coffee syrup, little alcohol, syrupy
Mouth is syrupy, little fusel alcohol, loads of pepper heat, light carb
Overall not sure where this was going, wasn't a big fan

12 oz. unlabeled bottle poured into a snifter. 2008 bottle according to the cap.
Appearance - Just shy of jet black. Transparent at the edges. Very little by way of a head.
Smell - Boozy. Nice vanilla and Bourbon. Very fudgy chocolate malt.
Taste - Sweet more than anything. Lots of caramel and vanilla. Not a ton of Bourbon or oak, but present. Chocolate malts but not overly roasty. Definitely some oxidation to this.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied. Maybe deserves a bit more viscosity. Low carbonation.
Overall - I've had this a few times. This bottle is probably the worst I've had, but probably due to age. It has lost some barrel character and body. And regardless it shows its quality.
