16 ounce pint - $4.00 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Served up a crystalline, yellow body with a small white head. Standard fare.

Smell: Basic, limp, light maltiness coupled with notes of blitzed corn kernels and altogether meek floral hops.

Taste: Modest underlying malts with a soft touch of honey sweetness and a few carefully administered drops of light corn syrup. Feeble floral hop tones and about the bare minimum hop bitterness, which just isn't enough to balance this little guy out, leaving you with a sweetish, lightly corny finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Less-Than-Special Lager isn't nearly as crisp or clean as preferred, which, for me, negates the whole refreshing/quenching angle. Who knows, maybe it's a home run in the bottle, but that's one ball game I won't be attending.

Well carbonated clear straw with a short lived creamy head. Smooth as can be. Slight honey taste over light malts and grain. Some corn and just a touch of hops. Light, crisp, clear, and refreshing. Better then many of the competitors. Absolutely no off-putting flavors or negative traits. Just not very exciting.

An aggresive pour of this beer produces a thin spittle pillow that quickly evaporates to give a clear view of the hazy, urine-colored beer below. Big carbonation bubbles cling curiously to the sides of my glass. Aroma is nothing but the faintest hint of apple.

The taste wieghs on the tounge despite the slightly watery mouthfeel of the beer. It tastes mostly of jimica with an assertive bitterness that eases in and out. What really makes this beer stand out however, is an intensely crisp finish that almost compares to Grolsch or Hienekin. There is a Wonderbready aftertaste. I noted a cheesey off-flavor on some sips.

The mouthfeel is a billion carbonation bubbles rebounding off your tounge like a tennis ball hit against a wall. Drinkability is rated high due to what I call "the potato chip effect". You know it is not good for you, you feel gross after having your fill, and it isn't really even that tasty, yet what you are ingesting is so unsubstantial you think nothing of popping one after another.

Pours yellow with almost no head. Forget lacing. Taste is sweet and smooth. Corn is present, but not overpowering. Faint hops. This is not bad. It is better than Bud by far. I might try this again for a taste of typical American lager. It is $4.99 a six pack where I live.

Yellow color, no head. Metallic aroma, not beeresque in the least.

Taste, non offensive yellow beer. Barely a tinge of hop presence to it, could be the carbonation masking it. That corn feel. Mineral water qualities.

Seriously, this stuff was .25 on tap on Wednesday nights at the goth bar in Milwaukee while I was attending Marquette. Made for an interesting mix of folks those nights, let me tell ya. Good times with not so good beer.

Pale straw color with a ton of fizz and a macro head. Sweet aroma, mostly, but a little detergent. Pretty malty but in a corn-like way without a tasty hop balance. Like many Point brews, the carbonation leaves me with an unsettled impression. Some people swear by this stuff, and since its more-or-less local, I'll take it over a macro...

(Served in an American pint glass)

A- The straw yellow body is crystal clear with a big boiling carbonation and a head made of big bubbles amass on the top of the beer. The head fades before I can set the glass down on the table.

S- The smell of light dry malt is very faint with a faint noble hop note in the finish.

T- The light hint of malt is followed by a faint noble hop in the finish. As I drink more I notice the light sulfury cooked corn note that gets stronger and stronger as the beer warms.

M- This beer is light with a watery texture and a strong fizz finish.

D- The light watery beer with a light flavor is not my style. The corn notes overpowered the hint of malt. I had a tough time finishing this one.

Medium sized pure white head quickly falls into a pretty decent lacing above a clear straw golden colored beer.

Light bitter hops and sour grain malt aroma.

Light grain malt taste with added light hops, pretty much the same thing as Bud Light, etc.

A very light sourness in a lightly dry aftertaste on this light bodied beer.

Blah, another light American lager, why when there is so much more out there to be made.

A clear yellow gold in color, after an extremely fizzy white head falls off (that is, very quickly), this one just sits there. It's in my SA perfect pint and there's very little activity. Some tiny spots of lacing do manage to stick.
The aroma is the best thing about this beer. It's a bit dull with some sulphuric notes to it. Light malts do come through a bit with a light floral and herbal hops undertone. It's all just so vague that it's hard to tell much about it, though the hops do come out more as it sits.
This would be average if only the hops didn't turn tangy and the sulphur flavor wasn't so heavy. Malts kind of die away, and there's something sweet in here that bounces off a suspiciously corn-like flavor that lingers underneath.
The mouthfeel is shallow, light and thin, offering at first the crispness even a macro will before that fades away. Carbonation keeps it from going dead and adds a bit to it, and smoothness isn't completely missing, but it's dull. It just goes very thin.

Pale golden with hints of orange. Thin head fades quickly.
Very little aroma. Faintly maltly and (adjuncty?) sweet.
Taste is similarly faint. This is standard american lager all the way. Honey-ish sweetness with a little underlying grain. Adjuncts seem minimal, but there might be some corn notes. Hops are a non-factor.
Thinnish, unexciting mouthfeel.
Regional swill. This stacks favorably against the macros, but there is nothing here to be excited about.

Crystal clear pale straw coloring with 1/2 finger of head that disapeared quickly and left only a few ugly dishsoap bubbes on top. There are some champagne bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

Smells grainy and a little fruity. Mildly malty. Maybe the tiniest hints of peach. Definite cheapo corny smell.

This one is light bodied and highly carbonated like most beers of it's ilk. Watery, grainy, slightly fruity. A little bitter (not in a good way). Sweet and clean watery finish with essentially no aftertaste.

This is better than most cheapo macro lagers as it has a stronger flavor, but it's still pretty nasty. I will not be having this again.

Point Special is a basic, well-made American lager with a clear golden body and short-lived white head. The aroma displays some mild lager sulphur, a thin maltiness, and some dull hops (Cluster?). It's crisp in the mouth with a gently effervescent carbonation and light-medium body. The flavor has more depth than many, and I'd guess they're not using quite as much adjunct as some of the others. There's a nice, clean maltiness to it, and even some dull, floral and grassy hops. The bitterness is, thankfully, a bit more solid than you'll find in many other American lagers, and it finishes dry and bitter with a bit of lingering maltiness and a smear of hops. It's decidedly American, but at least it leans towards being a mmore hoppy and flavorful European lager. Nicely done!

A - Pours light yellow with decent foam retention.

S - I bit musty; reminded me of Moosehhead beers.

T - Light, crisp, with minimal citrus flavor.

M - Thin, refreshing, but a bit watery.

O - It is what it is; a light lager. Not much else. I wouldn't go out of the way for it.

A thin off-white head dissipates quickly above the straw colored brew. There's no lacing to speak of. Aroma involves grain, grass and some faint sweet malts. Tastes of rice and malts. Very light bodied and dry. Not a whole lot going on, but could be worse. I could have a couple.

Had to get this when I saw it on sale for $5 a sixer at the store. Here's a long-standing brand that's returned to local control after a disastrous period of ownership by Barton Brands, and is now back in the Chicago market. That's the kind of beer story we need to hear more about!

And it's a nice beer. A foamy head that dissipates quickly, but underneath is a noticably darker beer than most pilseners, with a constant stream of tiny bubbles. The malt has a slightly toasty taste, with a nice hop balance and nice effervescence. Some adjunct is hinted at, but not noticeable. It leaves a nice malty aftertaste behind. It's a standard beer that's almost good for sipping slowly.
