Brown ale is becoming one of my favorite styles, and this is probably the local favorite. I was at a bar where I expected the usual suspects for beer, so I was pleasantly surprised that this was on tap. Good roasty dark malt flavor, balanced with a mild hop overtone in the finish. Served too cold and definitely improved as it warmed to a more appropriate temperature. Haven't had it in a bottle for a while and it wowed me a little more this time. I will revisit the bottle to see it is my growing apprecieation for browns, or a noticeable step up for the draft version.

Serving: Bottle into pint
Served: 16 July 2014

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear amber brown with a two finger dirty white head. Head takes some time to dissipate but does not leave any appreciable lacing. Slight carbonation bubbling up from the bottom makes this one look pretty decent.

Smell: Sweet malts and a strange musky hoppiness.

Taste: Rather than being a malt driven brown ale (which is really the ONLY way a brown ale should be), this one is lacking in malts and too strong in hops. The malt backbone is really thin and flavorless, meaning any hopping in the beer comes out too strong, adding an uncharacteristic spiciness to the beer, especially on the very front end.

Mouthfeel: Thin.

Overall: One of the worse brown ales I've had.

App: straight brown color, with average - moderate head, and mild aroma

Entree: initial nice taste / mouthful

Dessert: taste lingers with mild-moderate lingering aftertaste, that leaves me "indifferent"

Having drank Cabin Fever brown ale from New Holland prior to, just not desirable flavorwise.
