Its too sweet and syrupy for my liking. The smoky finish is pretty good, wish there was more balance in flavor.

Pours a nice dark ruby red with almost no head that dissipated quickly.
Taste is bready malt and malt sweetness plus some toffee/caramel mixed in. Also got an Amaretto background in the finish. A pleasant scotch ale.

12oz. Bottle poured into Door Co. Brewing snifter. Thick white head dissipates very quickly leaving no head at all. Dark copper with a tint of reddish, not opaque.
First scent was heavy malt, woody. Strangely the smell seems to fade quickly. Like after a drink or two.
A very nice flavor albeit a bit anemic. Same flavor cranked up a notched would great. Smooth balanced taste with a touch of bitter bite at finish.
Nice feel. Correct carbonation. But far too watery.
Love this style. I’m always willing to try new, at least to me, beers as I find them. This beer has a good base but not much after that.

I like this style. But, Lord James does not meet a higher standard for Wee Heavies.
Lord James Looks average, but Smells plenty malty... and slightly fuller and sweeter in the Taste.
While this Scotch has a full mouth, something lingers on my tongue (not hops) that keeps me from wanting this again.
I give Whole Hog and JP Points for trying to make it as a brand or as a brewery; but I'm not really sure what they are trying to become,
given how little their website reveals. Brewed at a contractor's plant, probably. But an oddly silent website.

A: 3.5 - Mahogany colored, with a small, quickly fading head
S: 3.25 - Disappointingly faint, just some very light caramel.
T: 3.5 - Highly sweet malt dominates, mostly caramel. Yeasty esters give a little fruitiness.
M: 4 - Creamy texture, lots of body
O: 3.5 - One dimensional for a wee heavy. Needs more malt character.
Weightings (percentages): 20, 20, 40, 5, 15. Avg: 3.47
