Poured from a bottle into a tulip pint.
A- Pours black with some mahogany showing through when held up to light. Fluffy tan 1-finger head. Leaves spotty lacing.
S- Oats stand out the most, roasted malt, and some light coffee. Chocolate really isn't that evident.
T- Very toasty and sweet. Chocolate still doesn't jump out on the the tongue, but it does make more a presence in taste than smell. Roasted oats and malt are the main factors in play, but the finish is fairly sweet due to the chocolate.
M- Low carbonation with a medium-low body. It is pretty light for a stout. Very easy to have more than one or two of these.
O- This is not a bad beer. I enjoyed the roasty, smokiness of it, but I feel the chocolate was lacking. Typically I enjoy the roast flavors over the sweeter one, but I feel like when you advertise a beer as being a chocolate oatmeal stout there should be a strong chocolate presence. Either way this is an enjoyable stout, seems like a great introduction to the style.
