I don't know that I've ever had a bad stout. This beer has mostly positive reviews. Maybe this was just a bad bottle. Little to no head, faint lacing, smells and tastes of prunes. Didn't finish.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Hill Farmstead glass.

Billowing, pillowy mocha-brown head. Darkest mahogany body.
It smells vaguely metallic and chocolatey.
Rich and velvety taste. This is a proper stout. Thick, dark, and roasty-chocolatey, with a hint of fruity sweetness or barley sugar or just molasses creeping in there. Not stunning, but certainly well-executed!
Recommended for stout fans. Perhaps not worth revisiting, but worth finishing with relish!

Very tasty stout, particularly if you are a stout fan. Good intensity with the roasted malt flavor, slight bitterness that gives backbone and balances the malt, not distinctly hoppy.

Pours a soapy, tan head. Rich, toasted malt with a touch of floral hops. Black. Starts bitter with deeply toasted malt. Moves into a medium bitterness, which moves into a nice citric bitterness. The toasted malt lingers throughout. The finish is toasted malt and lingering hop bitterness.
This is pretty good. Heavy on the toasted malt, but a nice hop presence as well. Not the most complex stout I've ever had, but very solid.
