Poured into a weizen glass a very dark brown, and when held to the light it glints a sexy ruby tone. Pouring the yeast in renders it murky as pond water, but i'd personally recommend doing just that. Huge billowing head of tan foam, arcs of delicate lacing in the glass. Retention is very good, long lasting for the duration of the glass.
Sweet caramelized sugars in the aroma, toffee and raisins. A little too sweet for my taste, but to style.
Very smooth feel, tastes like a liquid oatmeal raisin cookie. Full bodied and robust, the booze is in the background but a warming presence is felt. Nuts, fruitcake, raisin, figs, chocolate, banana, clove. Flavorful, though the aftertaste bears the mark of a boozy beast. A sipper, would guess it's upwards of 9% abv.

Pours a dark brown in color, almost black to the naked eye. It's topped with a medium tan head that leaves a nice lace as it falls.
Nose is rich, spicy and a bit herbal, with broader notes of vanilla and marshmallow that overwhelm the clove and banana notes which are typical for the style.
Sweet and full-bodied on the first sip, with a richer-than-average malt profile. Boozy! Or at least it seems a little more punchy than average along with being fuller in body, but it finishes a bit lighter than it starts. Notes of dark fruits (and a little light rum character) as the drink progresses. A nice, subtle bitterness overall, but more bittersweet and even tangy-sour than strictly bitter. This one really coats the inside of the mouth (palate), so it really feels big and filling on a clean palate.
Overall this is nicely spicy in character, has a nice heft and body, and is pleasantly warming, so it hits all the right notes. Just above average for the style --and there are a lot of good examples of the style on the market-- so if you see it and if you like the style, this is worth picking up.
Note: This is the latest in the Sand Creek "Special Reserve" series, and is not yet featured on the breweries website, but is featured on their Facebook page. Likewise, there is no ABV listed either at the website or on the label, but I would place it as very close to 8.00%.
