I had this both at the brewery and from a growler consumed within the next few days after purchasing it. It poured out dark blackish-brown with not much of a head and no lacing. It had an interesting strong roasted aroma, mainly of smoky barbeque sweetness. The taste was the same only stronger - mainly of smoke and bbq roasts, not complex, but it worked well (which is why I bought the growler!)

I believe that "Pig's Ass" has been dropped for the thoroughly mundane name of merely,"Porter".

Black with just the tiniest glints of auburn. The head is modest and pale brown.
Scented of dark cocoa, java, and smokes.
It stays on the dry end of the spectrum. Roast, dark chocolate, smoke, ash, grill scrapings. A flash of caramel bready sweetness, and flecks of rye spice show up from compliments and balance. Hopping is modest and general herbal.
Light-medium in body, but taut in the feel.
Perfect session porter.

4 oz tap pour into a mini pint at the Minocqua Brewpub in Minocqua, WI. Served as "Pudgy Possum Porter"

A - Dark, almost black brown but clear with a ring of tan foam.

S - Roasted malts impart the nose of cocoa and roasted coffee with no hops coming through at all. Simple but classic and nicely crafted.

T - Classic roasted malts have the same cocoa and light nose of dark roasted coffee flavor the aroma opens the beer with. No hops in the flavor again.

M - Crisp and medium-bodied with a dry texture to the finish and a bit of roasted bitterness.

D - Good drinkability for a darker porter. I like this one a lot.

Pours very dark with a nice tan head. Head falls slow to a small one but stays. Thin lacing throughout entire glass.

Aroma is all roasted malt with a bit of a metallic smell in there.

Nice roasted malt taste. Mild sweetness on the tongue. Hints of chocolate ending with a mild burnt, bitterness.

Medium bodied in the mouth with simple carbonation.

Good stuff and worth trying.

This looks the part for a porter -- dark. It arrived at my table with no head. It had mild roast taste and smells. The beer is brewed with some rye, and maybe that is what contribute a biut of spiciness to the malt. I don't have alot of experience with rye, but there is something in this beer that adds extra interest.

Enjoyed a few pints of this at the brewpub. Poured into my pint glass the beer rusty red brown. About one finger of light beige head. Small lace rings remian.

The aroma is roast coffee, dark malts and a hint of chocolate. Smells like a porter.

The flavor is smokie chocolate with a decent amount of coffee and malt. Light hop bitterness comes through in the finish.

Medium body with mild carbonation.

Overall a nice porter. I had the sample paddle and this was the one that stood out so I grabbed a couple pints while sat at the bar.

Purchased at the brewery for $10/growler by Bill/Frank/Mike.

A: pours a ever-so-slight slightly cloudy dark color with a rosy hue, some head but dissipated
S: mild, grainy, chocolate nose
T: well-balanced example of English style porter, good roasted, chocolate taste with traditional English bitterness (read good but not over the type like most Americans for the style)
M: good balance, a bit flatter in taste probably from diminished CO2 but decent all the same

Hmmm, can I just say this was a nice average beer? I actually used it as something to sip on in between tastings of a bunch of barleywines and imperial stouts tonight so this was nothing more than something to pass the time. It was fine. It had a nice chocolate, roasty taste and I suppose it was about like a porter should taste-nothing more and nothing less.

part of the paddle sampler
a-dark near black. maybe the darkest brown i've ever seen. thin cream colored foam leaves very nice lacing
s-almost stout, patent black malts, dark chocolate, hint of tobacco
t-again, are we sure this isn't a stout? dark chocolate and dark malts. 70% bitter/30% sweet. almost burnt tasting.
m-it drinks like a porter, moderate carbonation, but fairly substantial in terms of body.
d-my favorite from the paddle, but hell, i'm a stout man. my heart was broken when the imperial wasn't available, but this one was pretty darn good.
