Clear scarlet bronze bodied with a short but lasting cap of bone-colored suds.
Caramel-vanilla-nougat sweet on the nose, with a dab of grain, and light floral hops.
It begins and stays dominantly sweet, with that same sense of candied caramel and vanilla, with background cherry/orange fruitiness. The clean lines of the malt are the showcase here, and hops only add a dollop of backend bitters.
As sweet and apparently strong (it's claimed to be their biggest beer) as this it, it never ventures towards cloying or oppressive, as a satiny body ushers it right down the gullet.
Well crafted.

4 oz tap pour into a mini pint at the Minocqua Brewpub in Minocqua, WI.

A - "Road Kill Red" pours a clear amber color with no head at all. Average looking at best.

S - Toasted amber malts come out with a low hoppiness that doesn't really add much beyond offsetting the sweetness of the malts. Ok aroma for a red.

T - Toasted amber and caramel maltiness with a balanced low hoppiness. No real hop flavor carries through to the taste.

M - Medium-bodied and a bit sweeter with a smooth, nice finish.

D - Decent drinkability but nothing to get excited about, it's an average red that tastes a little above average. Not a bad brew.

This ale was came out fairly clear, amber-red color with little if any head. The aroma was weak, some caramel malt and a bit sweet, but really seemed lacking. The flavor was moderately malty, some caramel and bittersweet malts. The hop bitterness is medium and balanced the malts along with a bit of a dry finish. The carbonation and body were both medium. Overall a well executed brew but the recipe just didn't really impress me.

part of the sampler paddle
a-bronze/brown. looks like a amber and red ale mixed. light cream color foam leaves very nice lacing
s-caramel and a malty spiciness. sweet
t-caramel and sweet malts with a bit of spice to them. nice lingering aftertaste.
m-smooth. moderate carbonation and medium in body.
d-one of my top 3 on the paddle. an excellent red, which i feel like isn't easy to do. highly reccomended, if you go.
