This is it! Done with these Ridgeway Xmas beers, for this year anyways...

Dark orange/light brownish color with a white head. Good retention as a full cap with some lace left.

Some pretty heavy hops for a brown ale, mostly of the herbal, earthy and grapefruit variety. Malts are nearly in the background here, though nuts are quite prevalent with some chocolate there as well.

Taste reveals an odd clashing of flavors. Lots of bitter herbal and leafy hops, hazelnut coffee, caramel, light roast+cocoa, tobacco. Toasty finish. Kinda harsh and a definite step down from the scent, not terrible though.

Mouthfeel is fine given the style, medium carbonation with some heftiness to it.

The taste is definitely just kinda too weird to make this very enjoyable. It is kinda interesting/complex in its own way though.

500ml Bottle: BBD 28 Aug 14, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 16 Dec 13. Imported by the Shilton Brothers, which was a shock as I live in Shropshire! I wonder where this bottles has been before it arrived at my house?

Nice clear amber body with a full, deep head which died but gave some heavy lacing as it did so.

Malty, woody and nutty in both the nose and the taste, caramel notes came through the maltiness as it warms.

Good bite in the finish, this is a well balanced, easy to drink beer.

I poured this nondescript beer into my tumbler 40 degrees, the beer was a nice amber color and thats about it. The beer poured a really small flat head. The beer was bitter on the finish and weak tasting really. Really don't see any need to buy again.

Pours a crystal clear amber in the body with a slightly off white head, forms thick fine speckled lacing. Aroma offers some semi sweet toasted malts, cereal grains, and herbal earthy minimal hops in the backend. Flavor is middle of the road nice bready malts, semi sweet balanced with earthy hops, soft nutty character. Mouthfeel has ample carbonation a bit much, but overall what can I say these novelty beer labels are decent easy drinking beers middle of the road but they sell like hotcakes every holiday season, medium bodied at best. Overall I'm not sorry I tried this one very drinkable solid brewed beer labeled as a winter nut brown tastes more like a well constructed amber ale.

550ml bottle .Pours a cloudy brown with a quickly fading thin beige head. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast some dark fruity esters. Taste of caramel malt, yeast, mild dark fruit and nutty flavors. Palate is a medium body with mild carbonation. Finish is sweet caramel malt, yeast, some brown sugar, dark fruits with a bit of a nutty ending. Not the best in class but overall a good flavorful and pleasant drinking brew.

LOOK: Pours a perfectly clear copper. Soapy off white head forms and leaves plenty of lace.

SMELL: English ale yeast, bready malts, green apple.

TASTE: Caramel, tea like hop profile, very English. Soft toffee and buttery notes. Mild bitterness. Some brown sugar, nut and lightly toasted malt elements. For being 6% abv it's not even close to tasting strong. Quite mellow.

FEEL: Medium bodied, rich and smooth. Ample carbonation.

OVERALL: imported by the Shelton Bros, this is a very English tasting ale, mellow nutty flavors and overall easy to drink. Nothing earth shattering, this is just a solid little ale.
