A 275ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2012. Acquired from Morrisons a while back as part of a seasonal 4-pack. This ale is presumably named for the brewery's location.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear amber colour with light carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before dissipating. Aroma of caramel malt with mild stewed hop notes. Average.

Tastes of caramel malt with a dry bitter finish. Notes of stewed hops and cardboard. A harsh quality in the background, followed by a restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with decent body. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of bitter stewed hops and cardboard.

Meh - this is a pretty average ale. To be fair, it packs in a reasonable amount of flavour for its ABV, but this doesn't elevate it much. Stoic caramel malt with a stewed hop bitterness - where are the aromatic hop or yeast notes? Balanced and drinkable, but dull. No need to seek it out.

275ml Brown bottle, just out of date when reviewed.

Poured into a Batemans badged half pint sleev glass. Mid, to light amber body, clean and clear looking. Very thin white covering of bubbles as a head, which fell away to next to nothing quickly.

The nose was weak, some mild molasses giving hints of toffee arrived as the beer warmed.

The taste was more malt than hop but there was an uncurrent of hop bitterness below the malty front.

Easy to sup and flavoursome considering the alcohol content is only 3.4%ABV.

Not bad at all.

The beer is slightly hazy amber, a small head with large bubbles and no lacing.

Rather weak smell, some toffee, grass and a bit earthy.

Initially tasting of some toffee and nuts, some lemon, then grass and nettles, that turns into a good bitterness.

Little carbonation, soft with small bubbles, a dry finish.

A good bitter ale. Very much taste for the low ABV.
