this place was a great find indeed. It's located very close to some central action (Holland Casino, the Bulldog, etc) but it's still buried off the beaten path and can be difficult to find.

The location results in this place feeling like a haven for locals and a bit divey - which was great. The interior was that of a dutch brown cafe and was very dark with belgian and dutch beer memorabilia on the walls.

service was prompt and excellent, and in english.

There was a comparable selection to Cafe Gollem (minus the Westy selection) and probably in the neighborhood of 200-250 beers available, primarily from Belgium. I had the Postel Triple, which was lovely.

Another fantastic Amsterdam beer destination.

My favorite place in Amsterdam! Yes, you can get more tap beers at the Wildemann, but the Zotte has a much funner (is that a word?) atmosphere (some music go figure) and inexpensive food.

I nearly drown myself in tap Westmalle Dubble and barely survived by ordering their cheese and bread plate. The staff is fun and knowledgeable and the location is within stumbling distance of the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum and Vondelpark.

Only problem, well it's not really a problem, but this place is small! Get here early to get a seat, or you may have to wait a bit.

I was in this place in September of 06. I know, I have not been hear recently, but I took a journal with me on my trip and I just found it in my closet when I was cleaning.

I was traveling in Amsterdam and was told about this place by a local. Its located within walking distance from the Stayokay near Vondelpark.

My friend and I got here about 9 pm on a Friday night. The place was starting to get full and a couple of guys were just leaving the bar so we grabbed a couple of chairs right in front of the taps.

The place was full of locals. A good number of taps and everything was served in it's proper glassware. My friend and I were real interested in the Begian beers, so we wasted no time. I tried the following beers on tap. Leffe Dubbel, Timmermans Framboise, Grimbergen Triple, Wittekenke, Kwak, Delerium Tremens. Bottled beers Saison Dupont, Trappest Rochfort 6

We had such a good time we came back the next night. However this place was packed. The bartenders remembered us from the night before and set us up right at the end of the bar. Nice service.
This night I drank mostly bottle beers, finished off the rest of the Rocheforts 8 and 10, had a Bush, Kasteel Bruin and a Brugge Tripel. We were getting a bit hungary so we had a simple platter of bread and cheese. The food went very well with the beer.
We also met a couple of locals who were interested in what we were writing in our journals. When we explained what we were doing they thought that was a nice idea while traveling.

This is a great place to go.

Visited this bar on 13th October 2005. It took a little bit of searching to find it, but managed it okay. It would be a ten minute walk from Leidseplein or Spui. Entered the place at about 9pm and it was full of locals enjoying their beers. It was a very lively atmosphere with plenty of chat going on, music in the background. The only seats left were right at the end of the bar, where we sat and perused the beer menu, and watched the bar staff at work. They have a good selection of Belgian beers on tap and in bottle. I had a St Bernardus Tripel served at the correct temperature and in the correct glass. We had a conversation with two local guys who tried to convert us to drinking what they were partaking of, including offering me a taste! We were well situated to watch the bar staff working; they were very busy but were still efficient and good-humoured.

The only drawback to this place was the cigarette smoke, which was a bit excessive. It might be a better place to visit when quieter (and less smoky).
