U.S. Liquor & Wine is one of the best places to buy beer in the Twin Cities Metro Area. They have one of the best import selections I have seen in the area with tons of British, German, and Eastern European beers. There Belgian selection is also thorough with a lot of beers I had never seen before. The only thing I can fault them for is that they only carried five or six sour beers from Belgium. There American craft selection is very solid. They seem to carry only the better breweries that distribute in Minnesota, but they do carry all of those breweries beers. Overall, I would highly recommend U.S. Liquor & Wine to anyone looking for some good craft beer.

This place had a lot of beer, but was disappointed in their singles selection. If I was a local, this would be a good place to pick up sixers of my favorites, was adequately stocked, and had a good broad range of beers. A little lacking in the high end department, unless they were picked over that day. Other pluses are parking, and accessibility to the freeway network in the city. Service seemed to be lacking, as I was never approached. I probably would not visit again with so many other alternatives with better singles selections. As for me a tourist that is a must.

I am re-doing a review I did of the place maybe a year ago. Since then this has probably become my favorite store that i can get to in 10 mins or less.

Very good selection, not mind blowing like blue max but ranks very high locally. I think a year ago i said this place was pricey, but since then im finding it to be either average or slightly below average. The guy that owns it, or at least runs it, is friendly and the other staff members are all pretty cool too. This isnt a place to take a road trip to, but out of the 4 or 5 stores that are near me that have a very good selection of brews, this is the one i'm finding that i prefer the most. The one knock on it is that 90% of their stuff is not refrigerated. They also have lots of wine and booze if you're looking for more than beer.

Surprisingly wide selection of micro, craft, and foreign beer alongside typical liquor store fare. Definitely worth a stop, if only to browse.

Besides the hundreds of micros, there is a fairly wide selection of Bell's, Founder's and lots of Surly.

Pricing is either in line with norm, or can be slightly higher.

Unfortunately many of the 'keep refrigerated' are not, except for a couple of small coolers with minikegs and Surly.

Clerks and owner are helpful and knowledgable about their stock. They are happy to consult with distributors if something isn't in stock.

Lucky to have this place and the Four Firkins close to my place. This is literally 2 miles away. I gave it a 3.5 for quality because almost all the beers are room temp. and I'm not sure how often the inventory is turned over. Seems like some stuff has been on the shelf for awhile, but who knows. The owner/clerk is very nice, pretty quiet, attentive, but not pushy at all. He does know his stuff pretty well and knows his inventory too! I asked for a beer and he said the rep would be in there soon and sure enough, the next week when I went back it was there. Everything is arranged by country and it is quite the selection especially for the euro beers.

I do not know why it took me so long to finally visit this store. The selection is very good for the west side. I was walking down the isles and saying to myself "I didn't know we got that in Minnesota". I must of thought that a few times. The import selection is the most unique when it comes to stores in the area. Huge Belgian, large German, and Scandiavia selections. I must of spent 20 minutes walking up and down the isles. Most of the beer is non-refrigerated with only a few small coolers for Surly and a few other select beers. The wine selection is also quite expansive. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were on par with the other stores but I did not really see any good deals either. This will be a regular stop for me if I am in pursuit of some hard to find import beer.

Edit: I did indeed find some good deals on some beer. Just did not realize it at the time.

Edit2: July 2011 update. This place seems to be going downhill fast. The beer isles are always a mess and poorly organized. Boxes of beer just sitting around. I suspect more beer is past "Best by Date" than is within. Buyer beware. Still a large selection but variety seems to be scaling back. Quality and selection scores adjusted accordingly.

Based upon the recommendation of another BA here I stopped at U.S. Wine and Liquor on the way home from work. I've probably driven past this strip mall 100 times and never really paid any attention to the liquor store located there. From the exterior it looks like any of thousands of unremarkable strip mall liquor stores. BUT, once you go inside you realize you've hit a gold mine. I've never seen so many import beers in one place. Admittedly, I'm not very knowledgeable about many European beers, but there were dozens I've never seen or heard of before. They also have a veryy strong inventory of American beers. Big selection of Bell's, stuff I've never seen. I'd say their inventory is 60% American beers and 40% European beers. The proprietor and his wife were both friendly and attentive, but never pushy. On the items I was familiar with their prices seemed right on target. I am very glad to learn about this store, and will surely be back again in the near future.

Heard some really good things about this place and I was in the area so I stopped in to check it out. Everything is organized by country. Bottles are very neatly displayed and labeled. The only downfall to this is that about 90% of their beer is unrefrigerated. This is fine if the beer is rotated quickly enough, which I have no idea if it is. Prices seemed about right. Maybe a few things were a little higher than at your Blue Max or Dennis Brothers, but still in the ballpark. There are a ton of imports here. Belgians and geuzes that I have not seen anywhere else in the metro. A few other beers that I had not seen before, but also not carrying everything available in the state of MN. Also, nice beer glass selection as well. Staff was very friendly. I was just browsing and did not ask for help so not sure how knowledgeable they are, but very polite and helpful otherwise. If I were in the area again, I would definitely stop in again. Great West Metro beer shop.

Stop 2 of the Minneapolis Beer Sprint (5:55pm).

Quality seemed fine. No dust and appropriate seasonals.

Service was very good. I was approached as soon as I walked in and given a "world tour" (organized by country) of the beer. I was told to ask if I needed anything or any explanations.

Selection was good, but just a step behind Blue Max, my first stop. Other minor complaint is a smaller amount of singles offered. Overall though, you probably won't be disappointed. I picked up a mixed 6 pack.

In general, a very good store that I would certainly return to.

I've enjoyed this place since the days that it was Cellars Minnetonka, and I'm happy to say that it's still quite good. Ryan and Jason are no longer present, but the new owner (?) is there every time I visit and he's both friendly and knowledgeable about the beers and the wines. He's also been very open to suggestion, asking for a distributor's name for certain beer requests.

The selection is quite good... they have some things that I don't normally see at most liquor stores. They've got a great variety of German, American, Brittish, Belgian, Canadian, French, etc. beers. On my last couple of visits, I picked up some offerings from Fantome, a couple of hot-selling Bell's beers (Hell Hath No Fury) and Sierra Nevada Celebration ale. Like I said, the owner is very open to suggestion in terms of variety and brands, so suggest away.

Their selection is broken down into geographical locations for easy navigation. They have a nice variety of Minnesota beers (Shell's, Summit, Gluek varieties, Lake Superior, etc.), a variety of beers from around the US (from He'brew to Avery to Rogue), Belgian/Flemish/French beers, trappist ales, British beers, German beers, etc., etc.

Prices are reasonable and on par with other liquor stores in the area.

My only real complaint is that some beers seem to sit around for too long, and with some selections, the quality suffers because of this. I saw some Schell's Zommerfest on the shelves in the dead of winter (February, I think) and a couple of the most recent bottles of Fantome that I've brought home haven't tasted as good as I'd hoped. I'm guessing that some things sit around for a bit too long.
