Crystal-clear deep amber color with a moderate white head; quickly fades to scattered islands of foam on the surface, carbonation is slight. Nutty dark malt aroma with hints of coffee. Taste begins with toasted maltiness and nuts, towards the middle of the taste lingering coffee notes appear. Finish is dry and a bit tart. The mouth feel is watery for the style. Certainly not the best nut-brown ale I have ever had, but at least it is recognizable as such.

Package reviewed was a 16-ounce custom brown glass twist off. ABV is 5.8%.

Another "best Beers of the World" collection and again I am mislead.Pours very clear and amber in color. The nose is weak and almost nonexistent with hints of malt. The falvor is even less remarkable. Overly sweet malt, almost a metallic flavor to it with a weak hop followup. The mouthfeel is watery. Overall a dissapointing beer.

Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. This sampler has made my average sink like a stone over the weekend, and I am realizing it has been awhile since I have had so many bad beers in a row. It's a nice change from the pursuit of good beer all the time to just sit back some weekend and drink an assload of subpar beer. Anyway this brew scores points for being the first Old European that wasn't orange. Other "red" and "brown" beers in this line have been thoroughly orange. It's still not a good beer but it is progress. Pours and amber color with minimal head. Weak malt aroma. Back to the sour flavor, this one particularly tannic. Another drain pour.
