Solid, left me desiring more. Light bourbon and light vanil, was $9.99 so not complaining . I know of the only place in NYC that has cases of 2013 bbs stuff so am happy regardless.

A- Pours a muddy, ruddy brown with a thick tan head into my newly aquired Surly Darkness tulip. Decent amount of lacing dripping down the glass.

S- Toasty, smokey oak and bourbon. Little hints of vanilla and brown sugar. Not very intense on the vanilla for a vanilla beer. I think I'm picking it up more from the bourbon barrel and less from the vanilla beans. Nice bit of hoppy citrus notes and banana laying underneath. Nice, but underwhelming.

T- A ton of orange/grapefruit citrus on the tongue. Little touches of bourbon and oak. Again, not much if any vanilla at all. Touches of caramel and brown sugar. Nothing really stands out and shines other than the hops. I wonder if given some time, they'll fade and let the vanilla shine thru a little more. It's tasty enough, but I'm completely missing any vanilla at all.

M- The carbonation is very nice, but it also has a great sticky caramel feel as the bubbles fade on your tongue. Lots of citrus, hints of sweet caramel, bourbon and brown sugar. The alcohol is pretty well hidden even with it being barrel aged.

O- It's a tasty enough Winter Warmer if you forget the fact that it's supposed to be the VANILLA version. The only trace of vanilla I can find seems to comes from the bourbon barrel and not from beans or extract. Not sure if as the hops fade that the vanilla will shine thru, or just be even more non-existent? I probably won't bother to seek out more of this for $12/22oz.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

2013 vintage.

Pours a light brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, earth, citrus zest, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel, toffee, citrus zest, bourbon, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid barrel aged qualities that are slightly better in the taste, but I am hard pressed to get any vanilla aromas or flavors whatsoever.

Serving type: on tap.

A: Pours a crimson"ish" color, a bit hazy, with a tan colored head providing some decent lacing

S: Smelled of toasted bread and wood with a dash of bourbon and vanilla bean.

T: I get toast, sweet bread could with citrus initially, the bourbon is there providing some heat upfront and continuing. The light trace of vanilla bean is noticed upfront but dwindles away as the beer progresses towards more bourbon and sweet bread and wood

M: Well carbonated, medium body, sordove sticky sweet with good heat.

O: Not to bad for the price point, I want more vanilla in my vanilla beer and take it easy on the wax.
